The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 341

"This young lady sure is interesting. With so many people standing over there, how do you know they were looking at you?"

Clarissa sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. "Regardless of how many people are over there, the way you two were staring was completely inappropriate, wasn't it? From the way you're dressed, anyone can tell you're ladies from wealthy families. How can you be so ill-mannered?"

Mrs. Sherwood shot her a dark look.

Clarissa then turned her attention to Gwendolyn Jagger. "Mrs. Corrington, I know who you are. Before I met you in person, you always represented the pinnacle of intellectual beauty in my mind. Seeing you today, I finally understand the saying that distance creates the illusion of perfection. Some people, it seems, are only meant to live in fantasies."

Gwendolyn's expression remained entirely indifferent. "I'm truly ashamed that I failed to meet your expectations, miss."

Clarissa's pretty face displayed total nonchalance. "That's a bit of an exaggeration. But then again, in the past, Mrs. Corrington wouldn't have stooped to attend such an event. What happened? Has the Corrington family fallen on such hard times that you've become desperate?"

Gwendolyn felt a deep sense of disgust at her words. "My schedule is none of your business, and it certainly doesn't warrant your malicious speculation. You truly are the wife of a media company executive—always twisting the narrative. Does making these baseless assumptions about me earn you more money?"

Seeing the situation escalate, Mrs. Sherwood tried to defuse the tension. "We have no interest in arguing with you in a setting like this. It's pointless."

Despite her attempt to step back, the other woman showed no appreciation. In fact, she seemed determined to pick a fight.

"Oh? You don't want to argue with me? Well, that makes sense. Given the Corrington family's current situation, you don't exactly have the capital to act tough, do you? I imagine you're only here today to beg for help on behalf of the family. You should really adopt a more pleading attitude instead of being so aggressive."

If Gwendolyn and Mrs. Sherwood couldn't tell that she was deliberately looking for trouble by now, their years of social experience would have been for nothing.

Given their status, they shouldn't be engaging in a public spat here.

But sometimes, silence didn't solve the problem; it only emboldened the other party.

Good manners should be reserved for those who actually possess them.
