Caleb stood off to the side, looking utterly embarrassed.
Though he had been exposed to high society for some time now, he still couldn't help but feel awkward and out of place in the presence of these effortlessly aristocratic people.
Juno raised an eyebrow, casually waiting for Margie to try and justify herself. "I'd love to hear why it's so inappropriate."
"First of all, I don't feel comfortable leaving our assets to an outsider with a different last name. Second, I heard Caleb used to be an amateur in this field. Anyone can get lucky once and run things well temporarily. Besides, with Jumer's reputation preceding the brand, even a silly dog could succeed if you slapped its name on the door.
I'm simply being proactive and cutting our losses before a disaster happens."
Her words sounded remarkably logical and composed.
Caleb's face went slightly pale.
Naturally, people like them were completely beneath the notice of high society.
Juno leaned back against the sofa, her hands resting casually in her lap. She looked entirely relaxed, exuding the absolute authority of a boss. "You seem to be confused about the situation here, Aunt Margie. I am the shot-caller for LK. Whoever I want to manage it, manages it."
For now, Juno was still speaking calmly.
"You're treating this like a game. Can you afford to ruin a massive business like the Corringtons'?! Furthermore, before you came along, I was the one managing LK!"
Juno scoffed, offering a cold, dismissive smile. "I was wondering which brainless idiot was in charge before me, losing so much money."
"Excuse me?!"
"Wasn't I clear enough? You came to the wrong place to throw your weight around. If you want LK back, go have Gerda talk to me. You don't have the clearance."
"Sebastian, do you see this?! A country bumpkin daring to openly defy me! This is the sister you have!"
Realizing Juno's defenses were impenetrable, she tried to leverage Sebastian.
Juno didn't even look at them. This was just a headache.
"Forget it, Juno."
The moment the words left his mouth, Margie shrieked, "Are you out of your mind?! You want a millionaire like me to apologize to some hick from a village?! Juno, you are crossing a massive line!"
Juno viciously kicked the mahogany coffee table, sending it crashing to the floor. "I was trying to give you some face because there were other people in the room."
The table flipped. The tea spilled everywhere, sending thick white steam rising from the carpet.
Juno narrowed her eyes. "But it seems you're too ungrateful to appreciate it. Every other word out of your mouth is 'country bumpkin' or 'silly dog'. Where exactly are your supposed high-class manners?!"
Juno stood up, her height advantage instantly towering over Margie.
"Did decades of living in high society only teach you how to disrespect people and act like an arrogant snob?!"
She stepped closer, forcing Margie back, enunciating every single word with maximum force. "Is this obnoxious, domineering piece of trash the only thing Grandma's pampering managed to raise?!"
