The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 49

Sebastian speaking up like that was completely unexpected for Rhiannon.

Snapping out of his emotional daze, Babur immediately chimed in. "Even if she never achieves anything, our family has more than enough money to support her. As long as she enjoys her life and just focuses on being a pampered heiress, that's perfectly fine with me."

Gordon scoffed coldly. "Isn't that what people call a freeloader waiting to die?"

Sebastian set the towel aside. "Everyone has different aspirations in life. There is absolutely nothing wrong with just coasting through it."

Gordon was suddenly at a loss for words.

Gerda's face had darkened to the color of soot, but Gordon was completely oblivious to it.

His wife, Seraphina, gently nudged his arm. "Juno, Gordon didn't mean anything by that. He just hopes you strive for something better."

"It's fine."

Juno didn't care in the slightest.

After all, she hadn't been listening anyway.

Gordon opened his mouth to argue again, but Gerda let out a sharp, warning cough.

The words died in his throat.

Seeing his mother's furious expression, he wisely kept his mouth shut.

The dinner ended with everyone harboring their own hidden agendas. Juno was the only one who had a genuinely good time.

She had spent the entire night blissfully eating shrimp.

After dinner, Juno stayed behind to chat with Gerda.

Meanwhile, Gordon pulled Rhiannon aside for a private conversation.

"Rhiannon, I've watched you grow up. I might not know everything about you, but I know you quite well."

Rhiannon replied humbly, "I'll always remember how good you've been to me, Gordon."

"Right. I remember you composed some music back in middle school. There's a talent show right now that's missing a judge. Why don't you give it a try?"

"A judge?" Rhiannon looked at him in confusion.

"Yes. It's a new show produced by a rising company. I want to give you this opportunity. Rhoda Sloane is also on the judging panel. It would be a great chance for you to build a good relationship with her. You need to start establishing your own network."

She lunged forward to grab it back, but her frail frame was no match for her attacker.

Cassie Carlson shoved her hard. "After your parents died, you lived in our house, eating our food and drinking our water. You never gave us a dime, and we put up with it. But you giving absolutely nothing in return isn't exactly fair, is it?!"

"I'm begging you, this is my only dream left!!"

Cassie brushed her hair out of her eyes. "Let me tell you something. I'm going to be on TV the day after tomorrow. You can stay home and watch me!"

She viciously kicked Willow, who was huddled on the floor, and strutted out of the room, slamming the door and locking Willow inside.

Trapped behind the door, Willow collapsed onto the ground, hugging her knees as she wept in absolute despair.

The voices outside echoed clearly through the thin walls.

"Mom, I need beautiful clothes! I'm going to be on TV tomorrow! I have to look absolutely perfect!"

Cassie's voice was like nails on a chalkboard to Willow.

Carmela doted on her daughter entirely. "Of course, sweetie."

"Oh, right, Mom—when the show airs, you have to make sure she watches it. Force her to watch!"
