Juno's voice wasn't particularly loud, but it possessed a commanding tone that forced everyone else to stop talking. Edna had no choice but to shut her mouth, silently fuming over Juno's alleged lack of manners.
Claire's eyes lit up. "And then I managed to reverse-engineer the code and lock them out!"
Juno let out a genuine chuckle. "Impressive."
Claire beamed, her smile radiant.
She watched Juno casually eat her food, feeling a bit dazed. Truthfully, after being talked over and dismissed countless times in her life, Juno was the very first person who had ever stopped to ask what happened next.
Juno was a genuinely amazing person!
Because Juno had shifted the spotlight back to her, everyone at the table directed their attention to Claire. Harrison even threw out a few follow-up questions.
Every question he asked, Claire answered with poise and deep technical knowledge.
Her demeanor was flawless.
The entire dinner left Edna and Faye seething with jealousy.
By the time they were leaving, neither of them had managed to get a word in edgewise.
Claire was genuinely happy. "I'm really looking forward to seeing you on Monday."
The corners of Juno's lips ticked up into a faint smile. "Yeah."
On Monday, Juno officially arrived at Northbridge.
The campus was massive, spanning over four hundred hectares. It was basically a small city.
Juno quickly got settled into her dorm.
Rhiannon received the news almost instantly. Juno actually got in?
There was no way the principal would willingly accept an uneducated country girl.
Gerda must have used the Corrington family's influence to threaten him.
What gave Juno the right to demand such unwavering support from Gerda?!
Her grip tightened involuntarily until the pen in her hand snapped sharply in two.
The sharp crack caught Faye's attention.
She turned around. "Rhiannon? Are you okay?"
Rhiannon gave a helpless smile. "Alright."
Northbridge was huge, making it nearly impossible to blindly search for someone, but Faye had the Computer Science department's schedule.
They headed to Claire's building, asked around, and found out she was in the restroom.
Faye, sporting a bouncy head of curled hair and a trendy outfit, marched straight into the bathroom.
Classes were about to start, so the room was entirely empty.
She went in and didn't even have to search; Claire was standing by the sinks.
Faye and Rhiannon walked in.
Hearing footsteps, Claire glanced in the mirror. Seeing who it was, her expression remained flat. She didn't say a word and simply turned around.
Infuriated by the blatant dismissal, Faye let out a cruel laugh. "Wow. Too good to even say hello to me now?"
Claire, exhausted by her step-sister's constant theatrics, frowned. "What are you throwing a tantrum about this time?"
"Who's throwing a tantrum? I didn't want to cause a scene in front of Dad yesterday, but seeing you act like an arrogant bitch on campus is where I draw the line!
