The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 84

"You can barely protect yourself, yet you can't stand seeing others get hurt," Juno remarked.

...

That afternoon, Juno handed Claire a contract. "This is the Corrington family's latest hospitality contract. Take it back and give it to your father."

Claire took it with both hands, looking slightly stunned. "You didn't do this just for me..."

"I did," Juno replied flatly.

Claire bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, and then tried to push the contract back. "I know exactly what state the Ashworth family is in right now. We don't have the qualifications to sign a contract with the Corringtons."

She couldn't let the Corrington family take a loss on her account.

"If the Corringtons were that easily dragged down by one company, how do you think they survive in a place like Kingsland?"

It made sense.

But...

Juno shot her an impatient glare. "Just take it and go. You're annoying me."

Claire understood what Juno was really doing. She accepted the contract and said earnestly, "Thank you."

That evening, Claire brought the contract home.

The second she walked through the door, a heavy glass was hurled in her direction.

She dodged to the side, and the glass shattered against the floor.

She looked up, her expression frigid.

Gideon and Edna were sitting in the living room. The moment Claire looked up, she caught Edna's mocking glare, which practically screamed: *Little brat, I’d like to see you try and kick me out now.*

"You still have the nerve to come back?!" Gideon barked.

Claire gripped her purse and walked further into the room. "Why wouldn't I have the nerve to come back?"

If that happened, even if the company grew, they would still be looked down upon.

People might not say anything to their faces, but they'd secretly despise them.

Claire took a seat. In the past, she would never have dared to talk back in a situation like this.

But watching Juno act with such unapologetic ruthlessness today had taught her that backing down would get her nowhere.

It was time to fight back.

She pulled out the document. "This is a contract for a new development project with the Corrington family."

Countless people desperately wanted a piece of a Corrington project but never got the chance. And yet, here she was, casually presenting the contract as if it were nothing.

Gideon reached out to take it.

Claire pulled her hand back, dodging his grasp. "Why don't you finish telling me how you plan to punish me, Father?"
