Felicia spent the night at the Ross family’s house, and for the first time in ages, she actually slept well. When she woke up, the house was already full of comforting smells. Ava was bustling in the kitchen, making breakfast. She’d simmered a homemade chicken soup just for Felicia and packed up a healthy lunch in a thermos so she could bring it to the office.

The night before, Felicia had told them she’d quit her job. She planned to work as Jeremy’s assistant for a month, just to keep herself busy. At first, they weren’t thrilled about the idea. They hoped she could focus on her pregnancy, to rest and take care of herself. But Felicia stood her ground. Other than feeling a bit heavier these days, she felt fine. She could manage some simple tasks. More than anything, she needed something to do. Being idle only made her overthink everything.

Eventually, Colton gave up trying to change her mind. Felicia offered to help with breakfast, but Ava waved her away. So Felicia curled up on the living room couch, phone in hand, searching for prenatal Pilates classes nearby. She found one that looked promising and made a mental note to check it out later.

She kept scrolling, mindlessly flicking through her feed, when suddenly her heart dropped. A post popped up—a collage from a fancy dinner party at some exclusive club. The post was from Kennedy, one of Max’s friends, someone she’d added back when she was still working as Max’s assistant.

The caption read, “Dinner night. PS: Another day acting as a third-wheel. When do we get to celebrate your wedding?”

In the photos, Max and Andrea looked inseparable. In the middle picture, Andrea leaned in close, hiding her face against Max’s chest, his arm protectively around her shoulders. Max looked down at her with a softness that almost spilled out of the screen. The whole vibe was so sweet it was almost too much.

Everyone in Max’s world knew he was married now, but to them, Felicia had never been good enough. Kennedy probably posted the photos knowing Felicia would see them.

Felicia’s chest tightened painfully, stealing her breath. She turned off her phone and walked out onto the balcony. She needed a moment to pull herself together, to fight off the spiraling thoughts. One hand drifted to her rounded belly. Her heart felt unbearably heavy.

She shook her head, not trusting herself to speak.

Greg’s voice was gentle. “Felicia, you’re pregnant. Don’t keep things bottled up. It’s not good for you or the baby.”

She was quiet for a long time before finally saying, “It’s nothing. Really, it’s just… Max is with someone else now. It’s hard to accept, but I’ll get through it. You don’t need to worry about me.”
