The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 1176

Despite Ava's careful wording, Felicia could easily tell her stepmother wasn't giving her the full truth, especially regarding how she and Max got married, and the darker details of their shared past. Logic dictated that if they were truly a loving couple, she would never have kept her pregnancy a secret from him.

Noticing Ava deliberately steering the conversation back to the baby, Felicia chose not to press further. Digging up a painful past served no real purpose right now. The life growing inside her was the absolute priority. She needed to focus on delivering her child safely.

Colton soon came upstairs to check on her. Aside from the missing memories, Felicia seemed perfectly normal and healthy.

A moment later, a nanny hurried up the stairs, nervously announcing that Max had been scratched by a cat.

Ava frowned in confusion. "Weren't they locked in their room?"

"Mr. Hawthorne was playing with them in the cat room," the nanny explained.

Ava's frown deepened. Darin hadn't stayed downstairs to keep an eye on him.

"I'll go take a look," Felicia offered, standing up.

"Those are the two kittens you brought back from Cloudville," Ava mentioned. "Go see them. I'm sure they've missed you."

"I will." Felicia left the room and headed downstairs.

Once they were alone, Ava turned to Colton. "You came up pretty quickly. Did Max say anything to you?" Considering Max had personally delivered gifts today, he was clearly making his intentions known.

"He said he plans to hold a formal wedding for Felicia after the baby is born," Colton relayed grimly. "He told us we could make any demands we wanted."

Hearing the bitterness in his voice, Ava knew Colton was still harboring deep resentments. "Given how things have turned out, giving Felicia a proper wedding is the best possible outcome. Fixating on the past is entirely pointless now. What truly matters is how he treats her moving forward. You need to know when to let things go."

Colton didn't argue. "Yeah."

Downstairs, Felicia found Max sitting alone on the sofa. Several long, bloody scratch marks marred the back of his hand. The nanny hurriedly brought over the first aid kit.

She froze, momentarily mesmerized.

Max slowly raised his free hand, gently brushing his fingertips against her cheek. "Am I that handsome?"

Felicia jolted back to reality, hastily turning her head away. "Did I ever say you were handsome?" she retorted defensively.

"Your mouth didn't say it, but your eyes definitely did."

Felicia turned back to glare at him, crossing her arms with righteous indignation. "Then I highly suggest you book an appointment with a psychiatrist. Since when do eyes talk?"

Max simply chuckled. Even with her memories gone, she was just as sharp-tongued and stubborn as ever. Her core personality truly hadn't changed a bit.

"Alright," Max conceded smoothly. "Eyes don't talk."
