Andrea paused, surprise flickering in her eyes. Felicia glanced at her, taking in how Andrea’s yoga outfit showed off every inch of her slender, graceful figure. Her skin was flawless, so soft and smooth. Long legs, a tiny waist, curves so perfect it was almost unfair. With her hair in a messy bun and not a hint of makeup, Andrea looked effortlessly beautiful, not a single flaw in sight. She was the kind of woman who made even other men and women stop and stare.
The moment Felicia saw her, she couldn’t help but drop her gaze. The conversation they’d just had echoed in her mind, making her chest tighten with pain. She turned abruptly and walked away.
Andrea stood where she was, watching Felicia shrink into herself. A faint, almost mocking sneer played at her lips, but deep down, there was no real satisfaction. In her mind, an ugly woman like Felicia—awkward, overweight, and insecure—could never be her competition.
“Andrea, what’s up?” Lisa asked, noticing that Andrea hadn’t moved.
Andrea quickly composed herself, her features settling into their usual calm prettiness. “It’s nothing,” she said lightly.
Felicia took a moment to gather herself, then went to find Ava. “Ava, let’s go.”
Ava didn’t seem to notice anything was off. The two of them took the elevator down, then wandered through the supermarket, picking up groceries. This time, Felicia insisted on paying, and Ava let her.
They stepped out of the mall, ready to call a taxi. That’s when Felicia spotted someone in the distance—a figure impossible to miss. Leaning against the door of a luxury car was a man who looked like he belonged in a magazine. He wore a light gray cashmere sweater, and his long legs in tailored pants drew every eye. His body was perfectly proportioned, his face striking, with a kind of refined elegance that made it clear he was used to the finer things. The car behind him was worth a fortune, and the watch on his wrist was probably even more expensive. Everything about him screamed wealth and class.
He stood there quietly, the breeze ruffling his hair. People passing by couldn’t help but stare, but the cold, distant vibe he gave off kept everyone at arm’s length.
“Max is here,” Ava said quietly.
Felicia snapped out of her thoughts.
“Do you want to say hi?” Ava looked over at her.
“Mr. Milman?”
“Are you free tonight? Professor Michael from Stanford is here in the city for a lecture. He’ll be your instructor, so I set up a meeting. Thought it’d be good to introduce you ahead of time.”
Felicia’s bad mood faded in a flash. She couldn’t hide her excitement. “I’m free. When and where?”
“I’ll send you the location.”
“Okay.”
