Anne piped up after lunch, saying she wanted to go fly a kite.
“It’s way too hot today,” Felicia replied. “Let’s skip kite-flying.”
Anne frowned in thought, then brightened. “We could go to the big yard at the house on the mountain. It’s never hot up there. Daddy and I go all the time.”
She was talking about Max’s villa. Felicia glanced at Max, who only nodded at Anne.
“We’ll go after lunch,” he said.
“Okay!” Anne agreed.
After they ate, the nanny packed up everything Anne would need. The driver pulled the car up to the front. Anne bounced around, happy as ever, like a little rabbit finally set free. Kids’ moods changed so fast. One minute, upset. The next, all smiles.
The three of them got in the car. Anne barely made it five minutes before she drifted off, curled up against the seat. Max gently tucked a little blanket around her.
With Anne asleep, the car grew quiet. Max and Felicia sat in silence, both staring out their windows, their thoughts miles away. Felicia looked at her daughter’s peaceful face, feeling an ache in her chest she couldn’t quite name.
Then Max’s phone buzzed. He answered in a low voice.
Felicia could tell from his tone that it was Andrea. She was probably calling to see him.
“I’ve got things to do today. Maybe next time.”
“Are you with Anne?”
“Yeah.”
Andrea hung up.
Felicia turned her head, watching the scenery blur by outside. Listening to Max talk so gently, so patiently, she felt a bitter laugh bubbling up inside her. The irony was too much.
Max must have heard her, because he turned and frowned. “What’s so funny?”
Andrea sniffled and trudged up the stairs.
Once she was gone, Yvonne turned to Darin. “Tell me the truth.”
Darin looked serious. “Anne just can’t accept Andrea being with her dad.”
Yvonne’s expression tightened. “Her own mother left her. Andrea’s done everything she could for that child. Why can’t Anne accept her?”
Darin shrugged. “Kids are complicated. But Mom, be honest. Do you really want Andrea to marry Max just for her happiness?”
Yvonne stared at him, her lips pressed tight. “What are you trying to say?”
“I’m saying Max isn’t easy to win over. Don’t get too involved in his business.”
Yvonne knew exactly what he meant. With all the drama going on inside IronGate Industries, she was firmly on her husband’s side, and rooting for Allen, who was already nineteen. She wanted to give her son a real shot at the future.

When will this novel get an end It's dragging so much. Just kill max asap. How much should felicia bare. Give her freedom from that max and anne. Anne is so annoying child. I know she wants to patch up her mother and father. But sometimes it's really boring.please finish the novel soon. Everyday we have to check for the chapter updates. For God sake finish it off.
