Max pulled into the Hawthorne family estate.

“Daddy!” Anne spotted him and sprinted right into his arms.

He scooped her up and held her close. Miranda and Brysen were in the living room, so Max chatted with them for a bit. With Anne around, the whole house felt warmer and more alive.

That night, Max and Anne stayed at the estate.

While the nanny gave Anne her bath, Tatiana found her son. Her voice was sharp. “Why did you let Evelynn take Anne home today? What’s going on in your head?”

Max’s answer was simple. “She’s Felicia.”

Tatiana froze, stunned for a long moment. When she finally spoke, her voice trembled. “What? She’s… Felicia?”

She just couldn’t believe it. Evelynn and the woman from before were nothing alike in her mind.

“And Anne…” Tatiana started to ask something, but stopped. She realized Anne must not know the truth. At least she had enough sense not to push it.

“Now that Felicia’s back, shouldn’t you be sorting out the divorce?” she pressed.

Max’s voice was flat. “Anne has always wanted a mom.”

Since meeting Evelynn, Anne hadn’t asked about her mother again.

Tatiana’s eyes darkened. “She abandoned her own daughter five years ago. Now she can’t even admit who she is. In my opinion, she doesn’t deserve to be Anne’s mother.”

Max glanced at his mother, his tone firm. “Don’t say that in front of Anne.”

Wednesday morning, Felicia took half a day off and headed to Cameron’s law office.

When she arrived, Cameron and his assistant were already waiting. The assistant, Sam, was forty-five and a top divorce lawyer. They exchanged quick hellos and went inside together.

Cameron was already in the conference room. He and Sam got right down to business.

Cameron had all the paperwork showing a five-year separation. It was more than enough to prove the marriage was over.

Felicia didn’t have any solid evidence of Max cheating. Back then, she never thought he’d drag out the divorce this long. Even if she did have proof, she wasn’t sure she’d want to use it.

Five years apart with no contact said plenty.

As for assets, Felicia didn’t want a single dollar. She was ready to walk away with nothing. She wasn’t even asking for custody of Anne. All she wanted was to finally end her marriage to Max.
