“You walked out five years ago. Why are you back now?”

Felicia strolled in, set her bag down, and made herself comfortable on the sofa. Tatiana watched, her frown deepening. Then Felicia spoke up, calm as ever. “I’m here to divorce your son.”

Tatiana was caught off guard. She never expected Felicia to say the word divorce so directly. The casual way she said it made Tatiana bristle with anger.

She gave a cold little laugh. “Divorce? What, you think you can grab a piece of Max’s money?”

Felicia didn’t flinch. “Yeah. I’m planning to take at least a third.”

Tatiana’s face turned icy. “You must be dreaming.”

“It’s a legal right. Why wouldn’t I?” Felicia shot back.

Tatiana stared hard at her, breathing slow and heavy. “Fine. Let’s see if you have what it takes. Since you don’t want to acknowledge Anne, then you better make sure she never finds out who you are.”

Felicia’s voice was calm. “That’s between me and my daughter. You don’t need to worry about it, Mrs. Hawthorne.”

Tatiana’s expression soured even more.

“If there’s nothing else, Mrs. Hawthorne, I’m going to make dinner for Anne.”

Felicia always made an effort to cook for Anne whenever she could. She stood up and headed for the kitchen.

Marian and Amaris watched Tatiana’s face darken, then hurried over to her, careful with their voices. “Ma’am…”

They’d overheard the whole conversation. They’d had their suspicions about Evelynn’s real identity, but now they were sure. She really was Felicia. It was hard to believe.

Tatiana pulled out her phone and called Max.

It rang twice before he picked up. “Mom, what’s going on?”

“Did you agree to let Felicia come back and take care of Anne?” Tatiana’s tone was sharp.

“Taking care of Anne is her responsibility,” Max said.

Tatiana listened, trying to figure out what her son was really thinking. “She says she’s back to divorce you, Max. What’s going on in your head? Does she honestly think she can get her hands on your money?”

“What do you think, Sam?”

“Did you two talk about this ahead of time?”

“We chatted a little, but nothing was decided. He doesn’t seem willing to divorce yet.”

“Then we should just stick to the official process. Ms. Ross, just make sure you don’t have any financial transactions with him.”

“I know,” Felicia replied. It’s not like there was any money between them now anyway.

The weekend came.

It was Ava’s birthday. It was just a small family celebration, nothing big or fancy, just a meal together.

Around eleven, Felicia and Anne left the house with a gift in hand. Tommy came by to pick them up.

Anne was all smiles as she pulled Felicia into the car. The whole week, even without her dad around, she’d been nothing but happy.
