Jeremy picked up the conversation right away. “So, what’s the plan for this afternoon?”
Felicia glanced at Anne, then answered, “Anne has a piano lesson for an hour. Once she’s done, we’ll see where she and Yara want to go.”
Jeremy gave a soft nod.
Just then, Felicia’s phone started buzzing. She saw the caller ID, got up from the table, and stepped outside to answer.
A voice came through. “Evelynn.”
Two years ago, right after graduating, Felicia landed a job at a top investment firm on Wall Street. One of her first projects was with a small cosmetics company that was struggling financially. The company wanted investors. Felicia did her homework, revised their business plan, and submitted it, but her supervisor shot it down without a second thought.
But Felicia really believed in that company. She called her father. Colton didn’t say much, just handed over all his savings, forty million dollars. That year, Greg’s company had finally taken off, and Colton received his first dividend. When Greg heard about the cosmetics deal, he added another fifty million.
With that money, plus her own savings, Felicia invested in the cosmetics company, becoming the biggest shareholder. She quit her job and took over the company herself.
In just two years, the company turned around. By the second year, they were making over nine million dollars in profit. Soon, other investors started showing interest. Jeremy eventually invested in her company, Northstar Dynamics.
Felicia always kept the brand boutique, focused on its loyal customers, and never rushed to expand. Then, at the start of this year, the brand suddenly went viral. Thanks to its quality, overseas sales exploded. In the first quarter alone, sales hit ten million dollars.
Now that the business was stable, Felicia stepped back and let her managers handle the day-to-day. They only called her when it came to big decisions. She could have stayed in the US and kept building her career, but she decided to come home, since her family was here.
On the phone, her colleague filled her in on their latest partnership. Everything was going smoothly. They chatted for about fifteen minutes, then he said, “Horizon Peak Energy’s equity agreement is changing. Their parent company just announced they’re being acquired today.”
Horizon Peak Energy was an investor in Northstar Dynamics. Felicia didn’t seem too worried. She just told him to send her the details and promised to take a look that night.
After hanging up, Felicia started heading back to the private room. That’s when she heard a gentle voice call out, “Max!”
Felicia stopped and looked up. Andrea was coming out of a room across the hall. Their eyes met. Andrea’s friendly expression turned cold in an instant. Into her phone, Andrea spoke sweetly, “I saw the photos you sent. I really like the ruby jewelry, and that emerald set would be perfect for my mom.”
Felicia returned to the room.
Colton glanced over. “What was that about? You were gone a while.”
“Just some business from the US,” Felicia replied.
Anthony jumped in, grinning. “Greg and Felicia’s companies are taking off. Uncle Colton, you really know how to spot talent.”
Colton laughed. “They’re my kids. Greg and Felicia are amazing on their own. I’d trust them with anything.”
Everyone laughed, the atmosphere warm and lively.
As the meal was wrapping up, Ava still hadn’t returned. Felicia stood up. “I’ll go check the restroom.”

Is this coming to an end...
Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
The writer did a big one with Jeremy's speech to Max. He said almost everything that needed to be said. I have wanted Felicia or someone who knows the past to just tell that whole stinking family what they did and how disgusting they are and what they're doing now how unfair it all is to Felicia. A pity it was only Max but he really needed to hear this (plus more)....
I love the chase of this novel, how you’ve build each of the characters. They almost seem like real. I feel like I know them irl. But however I would like to know what’s max’s pov and what’s going on in his head. I truly believe max’s just a grey character. And also please please please update more!!!...
I was really hoping that Max and Felicia would end up together, but why did Max do that to Felicia? 😭 Is that his way of making Felicia overcome the trauma Holden caused her? I don't think that's helping at all. I just hope Max's character has some redeeming qualities in the coming chapters....
