Jeremy picked up the conversation right away. “So, what’s the plan for this afternoon?”

Felicia glanced at Anne, then answered, “Anne has a piano lesson for an hour. Once she’s done, we’ll see where she and Yara want to go.”

Jeremy gave a soft nod.

Just then, Felicia’s phone started buzzing. She saw the caller ID, got up from the table, and stepped outside to answer.

A voice came through. “Evelynn.”

Two years ago, right after graduating, Felicia landed a job at a top investment firm on Wall Street. One of her first projects was with a small cosmetics company that was struggling financially. The company wanted investors. Felicia did her homework, revised their business plan, and submitted it, but her supervisor shot it down without a second thought.

On the phone, her colleague filled her in on their latest partnership. Everything was going smoothly. They chatted for about fifteen minutes, then he said, “Horizon Peak Energy’s equity agreement is changing. Their parent company just announced they’re being acquired today.”

Horizon Peak Energy was an investor in Northstar Dynamics. Felicia didn’t seem too worried. She just told him to send her the details and promised to take a look that night.

After hanging up, Felicia started heading back to the private room. That’s when she heard a gentle voice call out, “Max!”

Felicia returned to the room.

Colton glanced over. “What was that about? You were gone a while.”

“Just some business from the US,” Felicia replied.

Anthony jumped in, grinning. “Greg and Felicia’s companies are taking off. Uncle Colton, you really know how to spot talent.”

Colton laughed. “They’re my kids. Greg and Felicia are amazing on their own. I’d trust them with anything.”

Everyone laughed, the atmosphere warm and lively.

As the meal was wrapping up, Ava still hadn’t returned. Felicia stood up. “I’ll go check the restroom.”
