Ava had hurt her knee after being pushed. The group headed straight to the hospital. Since a few of them had been drinking at lunch, they called for a driver. Greg, Ava, and Felicia rode together in one car, while Luke and Jeremy took another.

“Mom, what really happened?” Greg asked. Felicia glanced at Ava, still unsure about how things with Andrea had escalated.

Ava let out a heavy sigh. “I ran into Andrea in the bathroom. I’d just washed my hands. When I shook off the water, a little bit splashed onto her arm by accident. She just blew up, acting like I did it on purpose.”

Felicia’s expression turned cold. All this drama over something so small. It was obvious Andrea was looking for a reason to humilate Ava.

Greg’s jaw tightened. “Where’s Anne? And the others?”

“They’re at home,” Greg replied. “Savannah and Heather are with them.”

Felicia nodded, and soon they arrived at the hospital. The doctor checked Ava’s knee, cleaned it up, and said it wasn’t serious. A couple of days of rest and she’d be fine. He also treated Felicia’s face, gave them both some ointment, and sent them on their way.

Out in the hallway, Felicia spotted Jeremy on the phone. When he finished, she asked, “Was that Darin?”

Jeremy nodded. “Yeah. It was their mom, Mrs. Curtis, who called the police on you and Ava. Darin wanted to apologize for everything.”

Felicia gave a half-smile. “He really knows how to play the good son and brother.”

They all headed back to West Hill Residence. As soon as they walked in, Colton hurried over to Ava. “Are you okay? Is everything alright?”

Ava shook her head gently, letting him know she was fine.

“Evelynn!” Anne ran up to Felicia, worry written all over her face.

Felicia knelt down to steady her. Anne looked up, eyes wide and searching. “What happened to your face? Did someone hurt you and Grandma?”

Felicia scooped her up. “Me and Grandma are fine, sweetie. Don’t worry.”

“I’ll blow on it for you.” Anne pursed her lips and softly blew on Felicia’s cheek, determined to help.

Felicia couldn’t help but smile, her mood lifting just from having Anne close. After a little while, she set Anne back down.

Inside the classroom, Anne tugged at the teacher’s sleeve. “Can I call my dad first?”

“Of course,” the teacher said.

Anne tapped her smartwatch and dialed her father’s number. He picked up right away.

“Anne?”

“Daddy,” Anne said, her voice a little shaky.

Max’s voice grew serious. “What’s wrong, sweetheart?”

“Aunt Andrea was mean to Evelynn today. Evelynn got hurt on her face.”

Max wasn’t surprised. Andrea had already called him earlier.
