Max glanced at Felicia.

She didn’t look at him. “Alright, Anne. Be careful.”

Max picked Anne up and settled her next to Felicia. “So, how should Daddy apologize?”

Felicia slid a little farther away.

He noticed, even if she didn’t say anything.

Anne piped up, “Evelynn is going to be my mommy for a whole week, starting now. Daddy has to listen to Mommy and he’s not allowed to make her upset.”

Max listened, his dark eyes fixed on Felicia.

Felicia turned her head, refusing to meet his gaze, but she could still feel it, cold and heavy on her skin.

Suddenly, Anne wriggled out of Max’s lap and threw herself into Felicia’s arms. “Mommy, how should we punish Daddy?”

Felicia hugged Anne close. “Tonight, just ignore Daddy. You’ll sleep with me.”

Anne squeezed Felicia’s neck and rested her head against her shoulder. “Okay. I won’t talk to Daddy tonight.”

Felicia grabbed her bag, lifted Anne, and headed upstairs.

Over her mother’s shoulder, Anne gave her dad a little huff, just to make her point.

Back in the bedroom, Felicia tucked Anne in and waited for her to drift off. Then she slipped into the bathroom, washed up, and crawled into bed. When she checked her phone, she saw a message from Heather.

[Felicia, did you tell Anne?]

Felicia texted back, [Kind of, for now.]

Heather replied,[ What do you mean, for now?]

Felicia sent her a quick explanation.

Heather leaned on the edge of his desk. “Dad was so mad tonight, and I was totally on your side. What do I get as a reward?”

The Milman family had just been through a huge argument.

Adrian was furious that Jeremy had fallen for a woman who was married and had a child. He’d never spoken to Jeremy so harshly before.

But Jeremy hadn’t backed down, which only made Adrian angrier.

Heather, always their dad’s favorite, had jumped in to defend her brother. “I’m divorced and I have a kid. Does that mean I don’t get to be with a man who’s never been married?”

Adrian hadn’t known how to answer.

“And anyway, my brother just has a crush on her. He hasn’t done anything wrong. He’s finally opening up to someone. If you get in his way now, you might as well give up on ever having grandkids.”

That had shut Adrian up for good.

Shannon had tried to smooth things over, and finally Adrian dropped it, but he still gave Jeremy a strict warning. “If she gets divorced, I won’t say anything. But as long as she’s still married, you can’t get involved with her, Jeremy. Absolutely not.”
