Even after the broadcast was abruptly cut, Felicia stayed perfectly composed, hands folded in her lap as she waited for Darin to respond.
Darin stared back at her, his eyes so dark it was impossible to guess what he was thinking.
A staff member came forward, clearing his throat. “Mr. Foxhall, Evelynn, the interview’s over.”
Darin was the first to get up. He offered Felicia a polite smile. “Evelynn, thank you for today.”
He walked off the stage. The director rushed over, full of apologies. Darin was a hard-won guest and definitely not someone they wanted to upset.
Darin’s voice was easy, his expression calm. “It’s alright.” There was not a hint of irritation.
The director watched him go, uneasy. People at Darin’s level never showed their real feelings. He might look unbothered now, but who knew what he’d do once he was out of sight.
After escorting Darin out, the director returned to Felicia. “Evelynn, how could you ask something so personal and bring Max into it too? You know who Max is, right?”
He was trying to keep his frustration in check.
Felicia didn’t flinch. “If anything comes of it, I’ll take the blame.”
Evelynn was Colt’s personal pick for the show. Everyone knew she was talented. Rumor had it she’d ruffled feathers in the past and still managed to keep her job, which meant she probably had some serious connections herself.
The director let it go. There was no point pressing her.
The broadcast had been cut fast, but someone had already recorded the live feed and posted it online.
Felicia had just ignored all that and gone completely off-script.
She smiled, just a hint of sarcasm in her expression. “Colt, you know I don’t like playing by the book. Whatever happens because of today, I’ll handle it. The company won’t be dragged into this.”
Colt knew that. Even when she was sharp and direct on live TV, their ratings always spiked. Sure, some people in the industry didn’t like her, but it never seemed to bother her at all.
He let out a sigh. “The last part of that interview isn’t going in the final report.”
Felicia raised an eyebrow. “But if we leave it out now, doesn’t it just make us look like we’re hiding something?”
Colt studied her for a moment. Then, out of nowhere, he asked, “Evelynn, is there something going on between you and Mr. Hawthorne?”
