He remembered the time they’d bumped into each other on the golf course. Evelynn had accidentally hit Max, and even though Max didn’t say much right then, he was sharp with Felicia later on, when she hosted that financial summit. It was obvious there was some bad blood between them.

Felicia just smiled, calm and unbothered. “There’s really nothing going on between Mr. Hawthorne and me.”

Colt didn’t push. Still, he made it clear that the last two questions from her interview weren’t going to make it to print. He was firm about it.

Felicia knew better than to argue with him. “Alright, I understand.”

“Good. Go ahead and get back to work.”

She went back to her office and picked up right where she’d left off, not letting any of it get to her. A little while later, Savannah called.

“Felicia, I watched your interview today. You were amazing. You called out that jerk live on air. Too bad they cut the feed before we could see what happened next.”

Anyone watching could tell the broadcast had been switched at the last second. Felicia definitely hadn’t planned it all out.

“That was nothing,” Felicia said, brushing it off.

“Did Darin say anything to you after?”

“Nothing at all. He just walked out.”

“He probably didn’t know what to say. But what about Max? He’s the type to hold a grudge. You’re not worried he’ll try to mess with you?”

Felicia shrugged it off. “If he wants to blacklist me, let him try.”

Savannah laughed. “You really don’t care about anything, do you?”

“Guess not.”

Felicia didn’t notice any of the drama. She stayed busy at work until eight o’clock, only stopping for a short call with Anne. When she finished, she packed up her things and headed downstairs. A few employees were still at their desks, working late.

As she waited for the elevator, her phone rang again. It was Anne.

“Evelynn, are you done with work?”

“I just finished. What about you, Anne?”

“Come downstairs. I’m waiting for you in the lobby.”

Felicia paused, a little surprised. When she reached the lobby, she spotted Anne sitting on the couch, swinging her legs. Some of the employees couldn’t help but say hi to the cute little girl.

As soon as Anne saw Felicia, she hopped up and ran over. “Evelynn!”
