“Max, you can’t control my life,” Felicia said, her voice sharp.

A faint, icy smile played on Max’s lips. “If I can’t, who can?”

Felicia glared at him, her frustration simmering just beneath the surface.

Max met her stare, calm and unbothered. “You’re thinking about selling your shares in Northstar Dynamics. Someone will take care of it for you.”

So, he already knew everything.

Without another word, Max turned and headed upstairs, leaving Felicia alone on the couch.

She tried to turn on her phone, but it wouldn’t even power up. When she asked a maid if she could use the house phone, the woman told her it wasn’t working.

Jeremy and Luke were probably out there right now, searching for her. But she was pretty sure they’d already figured out who had taken her away.

On the drive in, she’d noticed just how tight the security was. It wouldn’t be easy for anyone to break in, and with no car and her bum ankle, she wasn’t getting out anytime soon. She’d be stuck here for at least a few more days, until her foot healed.

Max wasn’t letting her go, and there was no point in fighting him now. She’d only make things harder for herself.

She couldn’t help thinking about that phone call between Max and Holden. She didn’t believe for a second that Max was doing this to protect her. This was all because of Anne. Still, at least she was safe from that psycho for now.

A maid brought her to a bedroom on the first floor and set her bag down.

“Someone will bring you a change of clothes soon,” the maid said quietly. “Please wait a moment.”

After that, the maid left, shutting the door behind her.

That night, Felicia barely slept. The unfamiliar room, the emptiness of the house, and the absence of anyone she trusted made her feel restless and uneasy.

When she opened her eyes the next morning, her head was heavy and she felt completely drained.

A maid knocked and called her for breakfast.

“I’m not hungry,” Felicia said.

“Would you like me to bring something to your room?”

“No, thank you.”

The maid didn’t argue or try to convince her, just left her alone.
