Forty minutes later, the car pulled up in front of the building.
Felicia and Luke got out and headed inside. The lobby was sleek and busy, with people coming and going, and it was clear you needed a keycard just to reach the elevators.
Felicia grabbed her phone and called Max. “I’m here,” she said, her voice low.
A few minutes later, someone in a suit came down to meet them.
“Ms. Ross, please come this way.”
As they walked toward the elevators, the man turned to Luke. “Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to wait here. Mr. Hawthorne only asked for Ms. Ross.”
Luke hesitated for a second.
Felicia looked over at him. “It’s fine, Luke. Just wait for me here, okay?”
She knew Max wasn’t Holden. Whatever happened, he wouldn’t cross a line.
Luke nodded. “Alright.”
Felicia followed the staff member upstairs.
When they reached the right floor, the man knocked on a heavy wooden door.
A voice called from inside.
The employee pushed the door open for her.
Felicia stepped in. The office was huge and bathed in sunlight, with floor-to-ceiling windows that showed off half the city’s skyline. There was something about the space that felt cold, almost intimidating, like everything in this room was under someone’s total control.
Max sat behind a massive desk, his face as unreadable as ever, focused on the computer in front of him. He looked like the kind of man who always got his way.
Felicia took a breath and walked forward.
He didn’t look up.
She stopped a few feet from the desk and asked, “Where’s my contract?” She kept her tone as neutral as she could.
She just wanted to sign and get it over with.
She met his eyes. “What will it take for you to give me the contract, Mr. Hawthorne?”
He shrugged. “Depends on my mood.”
“So, how’s your mood right now?”
He raised an eyebrow. “Considering how you’ve been acting, what do you think?”
Felicia’s nerves felt like they were about to snap.
So this was it. He was punishing her for leaving yesterday.
“Max, what do you really want?”
He didn’t answer her question, just repeated, “Didn’t you hear what I said?”
Felicia stood her ground. She took out her phone, walked over to the window, and made a call.
She dialed Anne.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max)
Nothing today...
The story starting to feel dragged out. Nothing much is happening anymore and Felicia and Max are getting kinda boring.. it’s just the same cycle over and over again...
I used to like this story but now it draaaaags :( Now it seems like all characters are problematic and toxic (yes, ALL characters). Wish the author will give some warmth/emotion in this story. 700+ chapters and still no highlight, no exciting part, just pure coldness and expressionlessness lol...
Max and felicia really need to figure things out. Either humble max down and get him to respect his wife. Or let felicia be a free woman. Max is so ignorant and egomaniac...
I've reached chapter 104 with a broken heart huhuuhu. This is so heavy, so sad. I know the chapters onwards will be more lighter. Can't wait for the pay back time....
When will this novel get an end It's dragging so much. Just kill max asap. How much should felicia bare. Give her freedom from that max and anne. Anne is so annoying child. I know she wants to patch up her mother and father. But sometimes it's really boring.please finish the novel soon. Everyday we have to check for the chapter updates. For God sake finish it off. How many more chapters are there . You could have make the novel short and sweet. I wish if it was in theatre we could have finish it soon....
I am waiting for the update, thank you uploader we reader enjoying the story...
Finally! The robot Max is turning into a human....
The longer it takes to update chapters, the faster I lose my interest. Time to find another novel to indulge to, I guess....
