The call went through.
“Evelynn!”
“Anne, you’re still up?” Felicia asked.
Max glanced at her from the side, frowning a little.
Anne let out a big yawn. “Mandy and I were watching cartoons. I’m about to go to bed, promise.”
Anne had been staying at Mandy’s place for the past couple of days.
“I actually need your help with something, Anne.”
Anne perked right up. “What do you need me to do?”
“There’s a really important contract, and your dad has it. Could you ask him to give it back to me?”
Anne’s mood changed in an instant. “Is Daddy being mean to you again?”
“Could you talk to him for me?”
“I’ll call him right now.”
“He’s here, I’ll give him the phone.”
Felicia turned and walked over to Max. His face was dark and unreadable, but she handed him the phone. “It’s Anne.”
Max looked at her, his eyes sharp.
“Daddy!” Anne’s annoyed little voice came through the phone.
Max took the phone, pressed it to his ear, and walked over to the window, his back to Felicia.
Felicia could still hear Anne talking, then Max’s voice, low and gentle, trying to soothe her.
“I’m not… No, I’m not being mean.”
“We’re just talking about work.”
“Okay, Daddy knows.”
He listened quietly for a few more seconds, then turned and walked back, handing the phone to Felicia without hanging up.
Felicia took it, glancing at him. His face was cold and distant, as if he hadn’t just been comforting his daughter a moment ago.
Max opened a drawer and pulled out the contract, setting it down in front of her.
Felicia picked it up and checked it carefully.
It was the transfer contract. She let out a quiet sigh of relief.
That was why Holden had only gotten five years and a fine.
Felicia walked downstairs with the contract.
Luke spotted her and came over right away.
“Felicia.” He noticed the contract in her hand. “You got it.”
Felicia nodded.
Luke looked worried. “He gave it up that easily?”
“Let’s talk in the car,” Felicia said.
They headed out of the building.
On the way, Felicia gave Luke a quick rundown of what happened.
Luke shook his head. “Honestly, Anne’s probably the only person in the world who can handle him.”
Back at the office, Felicia went straight to her desk.
She signed the contract, stamped it, and sent it off without wasting a second.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max)
Nothing today...
The story starting to feel dragged out. Nothing much is happening anymore and Felicia and Max are getting kinda boring.. it’s just the same cycle over and over again...
I used to like this story but now it draaaaags :( Now it seems like all characters are problematic and toxic (yes, ALL characters). Wish the author will give some warmth/emotion in this story. 700+ chapters and still no highlight, no exciting part, just pure coldness and expressionlessness lol...
Max and felicia really need to figure things out. Either humble max down and get him to respect his wife. Or let felicia be a free woman. Max is so ignorant and egomaniac...
I've reached chapter 104 with a broken heart huhuuhu. This is so heavy, so sad. I know the chapters onwards will be more lighter. Can't wait for the pay back time....
When will this novel get an end It's dragging so much. Just kill max asap. How much should felicia bare. Give her freedom from that max and anne. Anne is so annoying child. I know she wants to patch up her mother and father. But sometimes it's really boring.please finish the novel soon. Everyday we have to check for the chapter updates. For God sake finish it off. How many more chapters are there . You could have make the novel short and sweet. I wish if it was in theatre we could have finish it soon....
I am waiting for the update, thank you uploader we reader enjoying the story...
Finally! The robot Max is turning into a human....
The longer it takes to update chapters, the faster I lose my interest. Time to find another novel to indulge to, I guess....
