Two days later, Jeremy and Felicia were at a symposium at Stanford. The place was packed with big names from the industry. Gavin showed up too. After the event wrapped up, Michael went out of his way to introduce Jeremy to some important people.
Gavin found Felicia just as things were winding down. “Evelynn, how have you been lately?” he asked.
She hadn’t seen him in a while, mostly because her schedule had been nonstop. “Pretty busy,” she said.
Gavin let out a sigh. “I was hoping that since you finally made it to New York, we’d get to hang out a little. Instead, I can barely catch you for five minutes.”
Felicia grinned. “Well, you’re seeing me now, aren’t you?”
He smiled back, then glanced over at Jeremy before lowering his voice. “About the DF Fund stuff, Evelynn, you really shouldn’t get involved. That’s their fight. It’s got nothing to do with you.”
Felicia shook her head. “I’m not involved. Jeremy’s hand is still healing, so I’m just helping him organize some data and analysis, that’s all.”
Gavin nodded in understanding. “Did you finish all the paperwork for the share transfer?”
“Yeah, it’s done.”
Max hadn’t stirred up any trouble, so things went smoothly. Now Northstar Dynamics was officially no longer her concern.
“So, when are you heading home?”
Max had only given her five days, and he’d been dead serious about it. Jeremy wanted her and Luke to get back as soon as possible, and Luke had work waiting on the other side, so they’d booked their flight for three days from now.
Felicia explained her plans to Gavin.
He sighed. “Feels like you just got here. We barely had time to catch up, and now you’re leaving again.”
Felicia couldn’t help laughing. “You really shouldn’t joke about that.”
She’d been in New York for almost a month. Time had flown by.
“Well, since you’re leaving so soon, you have to treat me to dinner tonight. That’s not too much to ask, right?”
Felicia smiled. “Of course not.”
As Max turned to go in, he noticed Felicia and Gavin standing nearby.
Gavin gave him a wave.
Darin and Andrea spotted them too.
The second Andrea saw Felicia, her face fell. Seriously, why did Felicia have to show up here again?
Gavin walked up to greet them, keeping things friendly. “What are the odds? You’re having dinner here too, Max?”
Max looked at Felicia, but she didn’t meet his eyes.
“Darin, it’s been a while,” Gavin said.
Darin shifted his attention from Felicia to Gavin. “Yeah, long time.”
Gavin glanced at Andrea, who was clinging to Max’s arm. He had definitely noticed the frosty glare she’d just aimed at Evelynn.
