Since they were already here, heading up to the summit felt like a must.
Felicia nodded in agreement.
Jeremy gave Heather a few instructions before he and Felicia started up the mountain path together.
Once they were out of sight, Heather took the cable car down, sent Jeremy a quick text to check in, and skipped the ski resort altogether. She figured Yara and Greg could use some time alone, so she went straight back to the hotel, stretched out on the bed, and scrolled through her phone for a while—sometimes a change of scenery was all you needed.
Meanwhile, Felicia and Jeremy climbed steadily, taking their time. The stone steps were slick, so they walked slowly, and Jeremy kept a careful eye on Felicia to make sure she didn’t slip.
But Felicia was steady on her feet, thanks to years of working out. Her boots gripped the ground easily, so the climb didn’t bother her at all.
Suddenly, a girl ahead of them lost her balance. She slipped and stumbled backward, right toward Felicia.
Jeremy moved without thinking. He wrapped one arm around Felicia’s waist, pulling her close, while his other hand shot out to steady the girl before she could fall.
The girl caught herself, but she looked rattled, standing there trying to catch her breath.
Jeremy glanced down at Felicia, his arm still around her. “You okay?”
Felicia looked up at him and nodded. “I’m fine.”
Jeremy let her go.
The girl who’d slipped turned around and stared at Jeremy, surprised. Even though she couldn’t see his face clearly, his presence was hard to ignore.
“I’m so sorry. Thank you so much,” she blurted out, her voice a little shaky.
Jeremy offered a small smile. “The path’s pretty slippery. Just be careful.”
His deep voice seemed to catch her off guard, and when she glanced at Felicia standing next to him, she seemed even more impressed.
Felicia and Jeremy stepped around her to continue up the path.
“Wait, could you please hold on a second?” The girl called out.
Jeremy accepted the card. “Thanks.”
She wandered off down the path.
Jeremy handed one of the photos to Felicia, who took it and slipped it into her pocket.
They kept walking.
“I saw some videos online,” Jeremy said, glancing at the sky. “The sunrise and sunset up here look incredible.”
“I was actually planning to watch the sunset today,” Felicia replied.
The original plan was to hang out at the bottom of the mountain during the day, then come up for the sunset in the afternoon.
But then Max showed up and threw everything off.
Jeremy smiled. “Well, since we’re here, it’d be a shame to miss it. We can text Greg and they can come up and join us later.”
