Andrea had barely ended her call when she saw her mother walk in.
“Mom.”
Yvonne looked at her. “What’s Max up to?”
Andrea dropped onto the couch, sulking. “He’s off skiing with Anne. I don’t even know if Felicia’s with them.”
Just saying it made her jaw tense. If Anne wasn’t around, Max would have married her already. Instead, Anne’s existence meant Max had to spend time with Felicia, and the more Andrea thought about it, the more she hated Anne. If only Anne would disappear someday. If Max wanted a daughter, Andrea could give him one herself.
Yvonne reached over and squeezed her hand. “Stop overthinking. Listen to me, Andrea. Love from a man never lasts forever. You need to keep your head and focus on learning how to be the lady of the house.”
Yvonne had already pulled her out of Max’s company and set her up with all kinds of classes to start over.
“I know, Mom, I do,” Andrea said, but then she hesitated. “Wait, Mom, who were those two people we ran into today?”
That older lady looked so familiar, like she’d seen her somewhere before.
Yvonne didn’t hide anything. “That man is Darin’s father. Felicia is your brother’s real sister.”
Andrea froze, her eyes going wide. “What?”
She started to panic. “So… Darin…”
“Your brother doesn’t know yet,” Yvonne said firmly. “And he can never find out. You can’t mention Felicia in front of him, no matter what. Understand?”
A nervous chill ran through Andrea. She thought back to all the times her brother had been there. Thank goodness she’d never called Felicia by name in front of him.
She nodded quickly. Then worry crept in. “What about Max?”
“He knows.”
Andrea felt her heart drop.
“Don’t worry,” Yvonne said softly. “He hasn’t told your brother and he won’t.”
“Hi, Jeremy.”
“There you are,” Heather said with a smile.
Jeremy glanced at both of them. “Want to keep exploring?”
Heather shook her head. “Felicia still wants to take some pictures, and we haven’t reached the top yet. But I’m done climbing. Jeremy, you go with Felicia. I’ll wait here.”
The cable car only went halfway up the mountain. Heather had managed a short walk before giving up.
Felicia had stuck with her, but honestly, Heather’s stamina was even worse than Yara’s.
“You really need to check your weight,” Jeremy teased.
Heather made a face. “Felicia, did you hear that? I’m not talking to him anymore.”
Jeremy just laughed and turned to Felicia. “Ready to go up?”
