Luke walked right up to Ashlynn, his voice cutting through the air. “Who told you to do this?”

Ashlynn kept her lips pressed together, refusing to answer.

Luke’s patience snapped. “I don’t care what promises they made you. If you don’t talk, you’re about to be blocked from the entire industry.”

The threat landed hard.

Ashlynn jerked her head up, eyes meeting his. He stared back, icy and unyielding, sending a chill straight through her. She broke out in a cold sweat. There was no way Luke was bluffing.

“I…” Ashlynn’s lips shook, but no words came out. She just stood there, frozen.

Suddenly, Felicia’s phone buzzed in her hand.

She glanced down. Max. She picked up. “Hello?”

“Are you at the hotel?” Max’s voice was flat, impossible to read.

Felicia nodded, even though he couldn’t see her. “Anne’s with her grandma right now.”

“Where are you?”

Felicia didn’t answer right away. Instead, she shot back, “Is there something you need?”

Max never cared about celebrity gossip. She doubted he was calling to check on her. There was no warmth in his tone, just business.

A heavy silence settled over the call.

Felicia checked her screen, thinking he’d already hung up, but the call was still active. She kept her voice cool. “If there’s nothing else, I’m going to hang up.”

She didn’t wait for a reply. The call ended with a soft click.

Max listened, his face giving nothing away. He stayed silent.

Andrea couldn’t figure out what he was thinking. With Max so quiet, she didn’t dare say anything else.

Back in the hotel, Felicia had barely hung up on Max when another call came in. Jeremy.

He’d been stuck in meetings all morning and hadn’t seen any of the drama online until Heather called him, worried.

Felicia filled him in quickly.

Jeremy said, “This feels planned. Someone was definitely targeting you and Luke.”

But why? Even if she really was with Luke, what did the person behind this stand to gain?

Jeremy added, “They must’ve known where you and Luke would be today. It’s Luke’s mother’s birthday. You should keep an eye on the guest list.”
