Wyatt jumped in, trying to calm her down. “Alright, alright, I get it. Don’t be mad, babe. Remember, we’ve got our son to think about.”

Amber’s baby was already confirmed to be a boy.

When the lunch was finally over, Felicia and Luke left the hotel ahead of everyone else.

“So it was Mrs. Curtis stirring things up behind the scenes,” Luke said as they walked out.

Felicia shot him a look. “Who else would go out of their way to mess with me? Didn’t you notice the way Ashlynn looked like today?”

Luke kept his eyes ahead. “Yeah, I did. She was dressed a lot like you. From a distance, anyone who doesn’t know you well could’ve mixed you two up.”

“Exactly. Who else would know me well enough to pull that off, to make her look almost just like me?”

Luke nodded. “Makes sense. But what’s her goal with all this?”

Felicia’s smile turned sharp. “Isn’t it obvious? She wants Max to see me as some woman with no class, fooling around with you. She wants him to be embarrassed to ever acknowledge me, maybe even disgusted enough to finally divorce me.”

Luke’s expression darkened. “That’s seriously manipulative. But does she really think Max is that easy to trick?”

Felicia just stared out the window. “Who knows.”

Back inside the hotel lobby, Yvonne sat across from Max.

“Max, you wanted to talk?”

“You might not care what happens to your daughter, and maybe she can’t do anything to you. But Luke is a Hawthorne. He’s not someone you want to mess with. Don’t end up embarrassing yourself, Mrs. Curtis.”

Max knew exactly what Yvonne was up to. Andrea showed up at Rose’s birthday party because of her. She’d even told Andrea to make Max drive her to the hotel together, trying to make their relationship obvious to everyone and push Max into a corner where he couldn’t stand by Felicia any longer.

“I let the last rumor go, and I can let this one go too. But there won’t be a third time, Mrs. Curtis. My patience does have a limit.”

Yvonne’s face drained of color bit by bit.

After Max walked away, she just sat there on the sofa, completely still.

“Mom.” Andrea came over, worry written all over her face. “What did Max say to you?”

Yvonne pulled herself together, took a deep breath, and shook her head. “Nothing important.”
