Greg came home from work and paused when he saw Max in the living room. His steps slowed, his face turning cold.

Max looked over with a polite nod, keeping his tone respectful.

Greg just stared at him, not saying a word.

Without waiting for a response, Max headed straight for the door and left.

Greg glanced after him, then turned to Felicia, who was standing by the stairs. The housekeeper stepped in to take Greg’s coat.

Greg walked over to Felicia. “What was Max doing here?”

Felicia kept her voice neutral. “Anne’s with me tonight.”

Greg’s gaze dropped to the box in her hands. “What’s that?”

“It’s from Max,” she replied.

He took the box, opened it, and saw a necklace sparkling inside. He didn’t know much about jewelry, but anyone could see this was expensive.

“This looks crazy expensive.”

Felicia nodded. “It is. It’s worth over two hundred million.”

Greg had figured it was pricey, but hearing the actual number left him speechless.

“What’s he trying to pull?”

Felicia shrugged. “Who knows.” She didn’t care anymore, whether it was about divorce or anything else. He just ignored her whenever she brought it up, living his own life as usual.

“You should give it back to him at some point.” Greg closed the box and handed it back.

“I know.” Felicia took it, determined not to keep something like that.

When Felicia went back to her room, Anne was sitting on the bed, swinging her feet and waiting for her.

As soon as Felicia walked in, Anne asked, “Mom, did Dad leave?”

Ava gave him a cool smile. “Didn’t think I’d ever hear Mr. Hawthorne be this polite.”

Max’s face didn’t give anything away. He said goodbye to Anne and left without lingering.

Later that evening, Felicia found out about the gifts. Ava had looked them up online and discovered they were worth over ten million.

Ava shook her head, half amused, half annoyed. “If Mrs. Curtis and her daughter ever found out, they’d probably lose their minds.”

Max still wasn’t Ava’s favorite person, but knowing Yvonne and Andrea would be furious made her feel a little better.

Felicia felt like calling Max for an explanation, but she knew she’d never get a real answer out of him.

“Mom, just put the stuff away for now.”

“We didn’t even open it. It’s not like we care about any of it.”

Felicia nodded. “Yeah, I know.”
