After his call with Andrea, Max rang up Darin.

“I went to dinner with Mr. Torres from CoreTech tonight. I also reviewed Andrea’s proposal. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with it.”

The plan was airtight, perfectly matching what CoreTech needed right now.

Max’s voice was steady. “Do you really think Andrea did all the work herself?”

Darin replied, “I had someone check. The proposal was Andrea’s idea, and she negotiated the deal personally. She’s been tied up these days, barely even going home.”

Darin ran a company called Keystone Solutions. Andrea had asked to get some hands-on experience there, so he’d set it up for her. Keystone Solutions had tried to land the CoreTech acquisition before, but the deal never went through.

No one expected Andrea to pull it off, let alone leave the other side so satisfied.

“Before this, Roen Capital had the CoreTech acquisition. Evelynn was leading it,” Darin went on.

Max remembered running into Evelynn and Savannah at the hotel earlier. They probably clashed over this deal. From what Evelynn said, it was obvious they thought he was backing Andrea up.

Max’s eyes darkened just a little. “So CoreTech would rather pay the penalty and risk upsetting Roen Capital, just to work with Andrea and Keystone?”

“It’s odd, isn’t it?” Darin admitted.

Andrea might have studied management in college, but she’d always been a pampered heiress. Only recently had she started shadowing Max’s assistant at BlueMarble Investments, and she was now taking some courses at Capital College.

Even if she was a genius, no one could snag a project from true professionals after such a short time.

“Check on the Curtis family,” Max said.

They both knew what was really happening. Andrea was eager to prove herself, but she couldn’t have done this alone. Someone had to be helping her. The Curtis family seemed the most likely.

He didn’t see himself as wrong, either. He’d always acted on his feelings and interests at the time.

Right now, he needed Felicia back in the family. That was what worked for him, so that’s what he was going to do.

“I’m not a mind reader. I can’t see the future.”

“So, do you want in or not?”

Max smiled. “Guess it wouldn’t hurt to make a move.”

He hung up and dialed another number.

“Find out who Miss Curtis has been spending time with lately,” he instructed. “And check on how she’s doing at Capital College.”
