The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 491

He knew Max suspected him. Still, by helping Andrea, he’d managed to keep himself out of trouble.

“That’s so like you, Max. Cold as ever. But I have to admit, Evelynn does seem like a better match for a wife than Miss Curtis. It’s a shame, though. Miss Curtis must be feeling awful right now.”

“You really only ever manage these cheap tricks,” Max replied.

He turned and walked away without looking back.

Trey watched him go, the hint of a smile playing on his lips.

Max got in the car.

Felicia was waiting, watching him. “Did what happened yesterday have anything to do with Trey?”

She’d caught part of what Max said to Trey earlier. Her thoughts drifted back to the mess from the day before. Darin could’ve helped Andrea seal the CoreTech merger, but using the negotiations to frame her didn’t seem like something he’d do. Sure, he’d want to protect his sister, but that was too much. Andrea couldn’t have pulled it off alone.

Felicia had considered Mrs. Curtis might be involved. Andrea’s mother would do anything to help her daughter climb higher. After all, she’d already tried to ruin Felicia’s reputation before. Helping Andrea again wouldn’t be a stretch. But seeing Trey now, Felicia realized he probably hated her just as much as Andrea did. He could use Andrea to take her down and steal Roen Capital’s internal data at the same time. It was a win-win for him.

If Max had been even a minute later yesterday, they would have gotten away with it.

Max glanced over at her, his voice teasing. “You really know how to make enemies.”

Felicia shot him a look, then turned to stare out the window, saying nothing.

The car eased away from the preschool.

“Have you thought about my offer?” Max asked.

Felicia replied, “When something sounds too good to be true, I need to check it out first.”

Max grinned. “Makes sense. Ask me anything, but I’ll need to know when you’ll decide.”

Max had saved her, but the whole thing felt like escaping one disaster only to run into another. If Jeremy hadn’t shown up, she might have ended up with Max all over again.

Jeremy got her some coffee. “You don’t have to thank me. If something had happened to you, I wouldn’t have forgiven myself.”

Felicia picked up the cup, took a sip, and smiled. “Your coffee is still the best.”

Jeremy smiled back. “I’m glad you like it.”

Felicia’s smile faded, her voice quieter. “Yesterday, Andrea and Trey teamed up. I’m sure Holden put Trey up to it. After what he lost, there’s no way he’d just let it go. Even if he can’t come back here yet, he’ll find a way to get revenge.”

“I know,” Jeremy said. “But Trey was careful. He didn’t leave any evidence. At least your phone data was wiped in time. For now, all we can do is cut off his connections here.”

Felicia nodded. She knew that even if they did find proof, Jeremy would have to think about Yara.

“Either way, don’t tell Heather about any of this. I don’t want her getting upset and affecting Yara.”
