The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 499

“It’s just a pen. You really can’t let it go?” Max grinned, teasing her.

Felicia shot him a look, all annoyance and no words. She tucked the contract away in her bag, slinging it over her shoulder like she was ready to leave this whole scene behind.

“How about staying for lunch?” Max offered, a little softer now.

“I’ve got things to handle. I’ll come back and check on Anne after work.”

He didn’t try to stop her. Instead, he walked her to the door.

“Drive safe,” he said.

Felicia didn’t answer. She slipped into her car and pulled away, not glancing back.

Max turned and went back inside the villa. His phone rang almost immediately.

“Mr. Hawthorne, Ms. Curtis was just in a car accident.”

Half an hour earlier, Darin had arranged for someone to take Andrea to the airport. But at the terminal, the bodyguard lost track of her for just a moment. She slipped away, darted outside, and got hit by a car.

Now she was on her way to the hospital.

Darin’s decision to send Andrea abroad was something he’d worked out with Yvonne. Andrea needed space, a break from the chaos in the Capital, and Darin promised Yvonne he’d talk things out with Jeremy.

Meanwhile, Felicia was back at her office, scrolling through work messages when she accidentally landed on Max’s latest post. Just a photo. No caption. Her fountain pen, right there for everyone to see.

Felicia frowned, tapping out a message to him. [What’s with the post?]

Max replied almost instantly. Just felt like posting. [Do you need to supervise that too?]

She rolled her eyes, not bothering to reply.

She had just put her phone down when it started buzzing again. Colton was calling.

“Dad?”

“Felicia, did you have lunch yet?”

“Not yet, but I’m about to. What’s up?”

“You haven’t been home for days. Work keeping you that busy?”

“It’s year-end, Dad. Things are crazy. I’m taking care of myself, though. Don’t worry.”

“Alright. But you’ll come home for dinner this weekend, right?”

“Of course.”

Darin stood by the door, looking tense. When he saw Max, he gave a short nod.

Yvonne glanced over, saying nothing.

“How is she?” Max asked quietly.

“She should be alright,” Darin replied.

Just then, the exam room door opened.

Andrea was wheeled out, looking pale and exhausted. When she spotted Max, her eyes filled with tears and she just let them fall.

Yvonne rushed over. “How is she? What did the tests say?”

Andrea had a fractured rib, but it wasn’t too bad. She’d be staying in the hospital for some conservative treatment.

The accident happened inside the airport, so the car hadn’t been going fast. Her thick down jacket helped cushion the blow. The worst injury was to her hands, usually so well cared for, now scraped and bandaged.

Andrea was moved to a hospital room. The doctor started wrapping her up with compression bandages.

Max and Darin waited outside in the hallway.
