The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 500

“She’s fine, you don’t have to worry anymore,” Max said quietly.

“Andrea’s always been so stubborn,” Darin sighed. “She hates pain more than anything, but this time… she went and crashed the car herself.”

Andrea’s accident hadn’t been an accident at all. She’d done it on purpose.

For the past couple of days, Andrea kept begging Darin not to send her abroad. She refused to leave the Capital, and the thought of Max being with Felicia was more than she could stand.

Yvonne tried her best to comfort Andrea, telling her to go overseas for a while to let things calm down. She promised that once Darin sorted everything out, Andrea could come back.

Andrea understood, but the anxiety gnawing at her wouldn’t let her leave.

Max listened to Darin’s words in silence.

Felicia spent her afternoon reviewing a stack of data, then headed over to the financial journal office around three. She didn’t stop working until almost eight.

At last, her phone buzzed.

She picked it up and checked the screen, then answered, “What’s up?”

It was Max.

“Still working overtime?”

“Yeah.”

“Anne’s still waiting for you.”

That’s when it hit Felicia. She’d promised to visit Anne, who was sick, tonight.

“How’s Anne doing?”

“She’s better. Fever’s gone, but she’s still coughing.”

“I can’t get away right now. There’s still work to finish. Tell her I’ll come tomorrow, alright?”

Tomorrow was Saturday. She wanted a little break too.

Max was quiet for a moment before answering, “I’ll let Anne know.”

Felicia paused, a little surprised at how easy he was being about it.

“Okay.”

She looked up at Max again.

His deep, handsome eyes held a gentle warmth that she’d never seen from him before.

“Go on,” he said softly.

Felicia picked up the food. “Thanks, but you should go home now.”

“I’m not in a rush. You’re spending tomorrow with Anne, right? So when you’re done, just come back to Oakridge Estate tonight.”

“I still have things to do later,” she replied.

But Max didn’t budge. He sat down on the sofa, pulled out his phone, and started scrolling.

Felicia shot him a look, but didn’t argue. She took a bit of the pudding, and kept her eyes on the computer screen as she worked the mouse with her other hand.

Max stared at her, his gaze thoughtful.

Felicia hadn’t always needed glasses, but years of late nights and staring at screens had damaged her eyesight. Now she was a little nearsighted, even though she’d tried her best to take care of her vision.

Tonight, she wore blue-light-blocking glasses. The glow from the monitor reflected off her lenses, highlighting her focused expression and the graceful line of her jaw. Her long hair fell smoothly down her back, with one ear exposed, the pearl earring on her lobe softly catching the light.
