For a moment, the air in the dining room turned icy.
Max’s face grew tense at Felicia’s question. He looked at her, his voice low. “Felicia, there’s no point bringing up what happened five years ago. Anne’s grown up now. There’s no blame left between us.”
Felicia held his gaze, a hint of a bitter smile on her lips.
Of course he’d say that.
She was the one who had gone to the Hawthorne family after finding out she was pregnant. Because of that choice, her father’s company survived. Max was never the type to accept anyone’s judgment, not then, not now.
She didn’t bother saying anything else.
The silence that followed was heavy. No one spoke.
Felicia finished her meal quietly and got up to leave.
Max stayed where he was, watching her walk away, his breath coming a little heavier than before.
Back in Anne’s room, Felicia found her daughter just waking up. The nanny brought dinner, and Felicia sat with Anne, helping her eat. After dinner, she bathed Anne, helped her into pajamas, and then stayed to play games in the cozy room.
Laughter filled the space, Anne’s sweet giggles chasing away the shadows.
Outside the door, Max stood silently, his silhouette framed by the hallway light. He listened to the laughter, unmoving, making no attempt to come in.
Time slipped by. Eventually, the laughter faded.
Just as Max turned to leave, the door swung open.
Felicia stood there, her smile instantly fading when she saw him. Her eyes went cold, her face unreadable.
Max looked down at her, calm and silent, but he couldn’t miss the change in her expression.
“Daddy!” Anne’s voice rang out, soft and bright.
Anne thought about it, then nodded. “Then, can you and Daddy take me to Australia for Christmas?”
Felicia managed a soft smile and agreed for now, hoping it would keep Anne happy.
The next morning at breakfast, Anne told Max about the change in plans.
Max glanced at Felicia, but she just kept eating, acting like nothing was out of the ordinary. She had never actually agreed to the Australia trip when he first brought it up.
“When are you leaving for Santa Monica?” Max asked.
Felicia didn’t look at him. She really didn’t want to talk, but with Anne there, she forced herself to answer. “The day after tomorrow.”
Her voice was cold, almost distant.
“How long will you be gone?”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max)
Nothing today...
The story starting to feel dragged out. Nothing much is happening anymore and Felicia and Max are getting kinda boring.. it’s just the same cycle over and over again...
I used to like this story but now it draaaaags :( Now it seems like all characters are problematic and toxic (yes, ALL characters). Wish the author will give some warmth/emotion in this story. 700+ chapters and still no highlight, no exciting part, just pure coldness and expressionlessness lol...
Max and felicia really need to figure things out. Either humble max down and get him to respect his wife. Or let felicia be a free woman. Max is so ignorant and egomaniac...
I've reached chapter 104 with a broken heart huhuuhu. This is so heavy, so sad. I know the chapters onwards will be more lighter. Can't wait for the pay back time....
When will this novel get an end It's dragging so much. Just kill max asap. How much should felicia bare. Give her freedom from that max and anne. Anne is so annoying child. I know she wants to patch up her mother and father. But sometimes it's really boring.please finish the novel soon. Everyday we have to check for the chapter updates. For God sake finish it off. How many more chapters are there . You could have make the novel short and sweet. I wish if it was in theatre we could have finish it soon....
I am waiting for the update, thank you uploader we reader enjoying the story...
Finally! The robot Max is turning into a human....
The longer it takes to update chapters, the faster I lose my interest. Time to find another novel to indulge to, I guess....
