It was nearing eleven o'clock when Max finally finished his work and returned to the master bedroom. Felicia was still awake. Acting as though she had not heard him enter, she continued turning the pages of her book. Max walked over, sat on the edge of the mattress, and smoothly plucked the book right out of her hands. Only then did Felicia lift her gaze to look at him.
"Still awake this late. Were you waiting for me?" Max asked.
"You certainly think highly of yourself," Felicia replied dryly.
Max chuckled softly. He reached out to grasp her hand, his gaze darkening with sudden intensity. "If you cannot sleep, we could always do something else."
Felicia pulled her hand away and moved to lie down. Before her head could even touch the pillow, Max threw back her covers. Startled, Felicia gasped as he abruptly scooped her up into his arms in a fluid, sweeping motion. Her eyes widened as she glared at him. "Max, what do you think you are doing?" she demanded in a harsh whisper.
"We should not disturb Anne," Max replied softly as he carried her toward the door.
Their daughter was currently sound asleep in her small bed across the room. Without missing a beat, Max carried Felicia straight into the adjacent guest suite.
"Max, you..." Before she could protest further, his lips claimed hers. His forceful, dominant strength pressed her gently but firmly against the mattress. His husky, magnetic voice offered a low, seductive reassurance against her ear. "Relax your body. Do not be afraid. I will take things slow."
To ensure she did not feel fearful or resistant, he made every motion excruciatingly tender. He prioritized her comfort above all else, allowing her body to adjust to his touch, well aware that rebuilding their intimacy was a delicate, ongoing process. An hour later, Max gathered her exhausted, pliant body into his arms and carried her back to the master bedroom, tucking her safely into bed beside Anne.
The next morning, Felicia groggily opened her eyes to find Anne nestled obediently in her arms. The little girl's big, clear eyes were staring at her without blinking. Seeing her mother awake, Anne immediately leaned in and planted a loud, wet kiss on her cheek. "Good morning, Mommy!"
As Felicia's blurry consciousness cleared, a warm smile curved her lips. She gently stroked Anne's head and pressed a loving kiss to her forehead.
"Get up and start getting ready," he instructed smoothly. "It takes about an hour to drive to the campsite. The weather is perfect today, so we should head out early."
He whisked Anne away to the bathroom to brush her teeth. After a hearty breakfast, Max drove the two of them out of the city.
The weekend weather proved glorious. Max spent the entire time outdoors with them, dedicating the vast majority of his energy to playing games with Anne, while Felicia sat quietly on the sidelines, content to simply watch the father and daughter bond.
Meanwhile, Holden and Andrea's impending engagement had completely taken over the Capital. Nearly everyone in high society had received an invitation. The news dominated the massive digital billboards across the city's commercial plazas and skyrocketed to the top of local trending lists.
Holden spared absolutely no expense. He had purchased the entire city's inventory of exotic flowers to decorate the venue. The diamond rings and custom evening gowns were meticulously crafted by elite international design teams, and the gala itself was set in a lavish countryside estate valued at over fifty million dollars. Even the party favors handed out to guests were worth tens of thousands of dollars each. Every extravagant detail was leaked to the press, broadcasting a clear message to the world. It was designed to show exactly how spectacular the union was, how deeply Holden adored Andrea, and how incredibly blessed and spoiled she was. The sheer scale of the event was staggeringly ostentatious.

Is this coming to an end...
Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
The writer did a big one with Jeremy's speech to Max. He said almost everything that needed to be said. I have wanted Felicia or someone who knows the past to just tell that whole stinking family what they did and how disgusting they are and what they're doing now how unfair it all is to Felicia. A pity it was only Max but he really needed to hear this (plus more)....
I love the chase of this novel, how you’ve build each of the characters. They almost seem like real. I feel like I know them irl. But however I would like to know what’s max’s pov and what’s going on in his head. I truly believe max’s just a grey character. And also please please please update more!!!...
I was really hoping that Max and Felicia would end up together, but why did Max do that to Felicia? 😭 Is that his way of making Felicia overcome the trauma Holden caused her? I don't think that's helping at all. I just hope Max's character has some redeeming qualities in the coming chapters....
