Felicia was bundled up in so many layers, her belly looked even rounder than usual. She was probably due any day now. No one would ever guess that this ordinary-looking pregnant woman was carrying the kid of the Hawthorne family.

There was a long, quiet pause. Darin finally dropped his gaze and was about to get into his car when he noticed Savannah coming over with an umbrella. Savannah spotted Darin too and shot him a look that said she wasn’t impressed.

Felicia saw Savannah and stepped outside. The cold wind hit her right away, making her shiver. Savannah closed her umbrella and fussed over Felicia, adjusting her hat and scarf. With all those layers, Felicia looked like a little bear.

“Come on,” Savannah said. She opened the umbrella again, linked arms with Felicia, and they started walking. The pavement was slick from the rain, so Savannah took it extra slow, keeping a steady hold on Felicia.

From inside his car, Darin watched the two of them as they made their way down the street. He didn’t look away until his phone rang. Andrea was calling. “Let’s go,” he told the driver.

Felicia climbed into Savannah’s car and they headed to a nearby mall for afternoon tea. Christmas was only a week away, so the whole place was decked out in holiday decorations. Afterwards, Savannah walked with Felicia through the mall. When they passed a baby store, Savannah asked if she wanted to go in.

Felicia shook her head. There was no point in looking. She wouldn’t be the one shopping for the baby, as she wouldn’t get to be with her child anyway. She tried to keep her feelings hidden, but Savannah could see the sadness in her eyes. Ten months of carrying a baby, and in the end, the child would belong to someone else.

And the baby’s father was probably out showing off with his mistress, acting like nothing was wrong. Savannah couldn’t help but chew Max out in her head. She wanted to say something to comfort Felicia, but in the end, she just stayed quiet.

Felicia ended up buying a little gold locket anyway. She wanted to leave something behind for her baby.

A delay like this meant the deal might fall through. Felicia just nodded. “Let’s wait for news from Dad.”

Ava agreed. “You should go rest.”

Felicia had eaten snacks earlier, so she wasn’t too hungry for dinner, but she knew she’d be starving later. After dinner, she curled up on the sofa to watch a movie.

She heard a car pull up outside. She hadn’t expected Max to come home tonight, but to her surprise, he walked through the door.
