The concert was just starting, but Savannah’s good mood had already disappeared. At least Jaron, her favorite tenor, was opening the show. The music was on another level. It was honestly breathtaking.

Felicia listened, trying to let the music pull her away from thoughts of Max. She tried to seem calm, but inside, she wasn’t even close. Then the next performer walked out onto the stage.

Andrea.

She wore a pale lavender strapless gown that sparkled with crystals all over the full skirt. Her hair was styled up, elegant and tidy, and her face looked so bright and beautiful it was almost unreal. From where Felicia sat, she could see Max’s profile. He was watching the stage, eyes glued to Andrea, completely focused on her.

The moment Andrea appeared, the whole audience gasped and started whispering. People raised their phones, snapping photos like she was a celebrity. No wonder Max and Darin were here, and all those important guests too. They were clearly here to support Andrea.

Savannah’s face didn’t look any better than Felicia’s. She leaned over and whispered, “Do you want to leave?”

But they were right in the middle of the row, surrounded on both sides. It would’ve been impossible to get out quietly. Felicia just shook her head. “Let’s wait until it’s finished.”

On stage, Andrea sat at the piano. Her slender fingers rested on the keys, and as the orchestra joined in, the hall filled with this incredible, rich sound. The music was gorgeous, like a dream. Andrea played beautifully, obviously gifted. But Felicia couldn’t relax and listen like she used to.

Suddenly, Savannah nudged her and handed over a wireless earbud. “Want to block this out?”

Felicia smiled, a little amused, and shook her head. “I’m good.”

Andrea’s performance went on for a few more minutes before finally coming to an end. The applause was thunderous. In the front row, a man was clapping, his smile warm and full of praise. Felicia and Savannah were probably the only ones in the hall not cheering.

Felicia nodded. “Okay.”

Savannah went out the door, and Felicia sat on a bench in the lobby, waiting. People were still trickling out of the concert hall.

A moment later, Felicia spotted Darin walking toward the exit with a group of people. Max and Andrea weren’t with them. They were probably off together somewhere.

As Darin glanced over, his eyes met Felicia’s for just a second. She quickly looked away, focusing on the rain outside. Darin dropped his gaze too.

Outside, three cars were already waiting for the group. They said their goodbyes and got in. Darin watched as the cars pulled away, but he didn’t get in. Instead, he turned to look back at Felicia. She just sat there quietly, looking calm and peaceful, even though everything felt different now.
