Max’s expression didn’t change. He glanced at Felicia, who was staring straight ahead, avoiding his gaze. He then turned back to Anne.
“Anne, why don’t you let Daddy see the pictures?”
Felicia’s brow furrowed as she looked at him.
Anne turned to her. “Mommy, Daddy and I both want to see.”
Felicia stroked Anne’s head, offering an excuse. “The photos are backed up on the computer, so they’re not on my phone anymore. We can look when we get home.”
Anne pouted. “Okay, fine. Daddy and I will look at them when we get home.”
Max looked at Felicia, their eyes meeting for a brief moment before she coolly looked away.
It had been a long day of playing.
Anne quickly fell asleep in the car. Felicia leaned back against the seat and closed her eyes to rest.
She heard the man’s voice, lowered, beside her. “Now that our relationship is public, we should hold a formal reception.”
At his words, Felicia’s eyes snapped open. She turned to Max. “And what if I don’t agree to it?”
“If you’re still angry, we can wait a little longer. But life has to go on. Staying upset with me like this isn’t a solution.” As he spoke, Max gently adjusted the small blanket covering Anne. “Since you love Anne, there’s nothing that can’t be changed. You’re a smart woman, Felicia. Why keep torturing yourself like this?”
It was as if he could see right through her, dissecting reality and laying it bare for her to see. He always had this way of analyzing another person’s pain with such detached clarity.
For him, there seemed to be no room for sentiment. Every emotion could be analyzed with cold logic, conclusions drawn, things discarded or possessed as needed.
After a moment of silence, Felicia looked directly at him. “I can’t be like you. You sit on your throne, controlling everything you desire. Of course you can accept anything with a clear conscience.”
Max slowly replied, “I don’t deny what you’re saying. But it’s also reality, isn’t it?”
Felicia’s dark eyes narrowed.
Yes. The reality was that he could control everything.
Then she heard him speak again. “Of course, I know you’re stubborn. So I can change, too.”
His words hit her with the force of a physical blow. Felicia stared at him, her gaze locked on his calm, handsome face. His eyes were dark, so dark they could pull a person in and drown them.
After a long moment, Felicia looked away, her expression unreadable. She didn’t respond.
The car was so quiet you could hear them breathing.
Felicia leaned back against the seat and closed her eyes again.
When she next awoke, the car was still moving, but they were on an unfamiliar route. It was definitely not the way home. She sat up abruptly, looking at the man across from her who was focused on his laptop, handling work.
Max looked up at her. “You’re awake?”
“Where are we going?” she asked.
Anne declared, “I want fish.”
Max’s eyes crinkled with a gentle smile as he looked at his daughter. “Then we’ll have fish.”
That evening, Felicia was gently patting Anne’s back, coaxing her to sleep. Exhausted from a full day of playing, Anne soon drifted into a deep slumber.
Max entered the room and walked to the edge of the bed. He lifted the covers and settled in behind Felicia, his arm wrapping around her. His fingers gently stroked Anne’s soft cheek as he whispered in his deep, magnetic voice, “She’s asleep.”
The scent of his body wash filled her senses, and she could feel the solid strength of his chest pressed against her back. Felicia’s body tensed. “When are we heading back tomorrow?”
“We’ll dock around nine. We should be home by noon.”
Felicia didn’t ask anything else.
“Are you going back to Roen Capital tomorrow?” Max asked.
Felicia had cleared her entire schedule for the past few days. The industry gossip about her and Max had started to die down, the initial storm having passed.
Felicia countered, “Deep down, you want me to resign from Roen Capital, don’t you?”
“Of course I’d prefer you not to continue working there,” Max said. “But I won’t force you. If you want to stay at Roen Capital, it’s entirely your decision.”
“After you’ve pushed things this far, does my decision even matter?”
Although Jeremy hadn't mentioned the company's situation to her, she had heard from Savannah that the upper management at Roen Capital remained skeptical about her continued presence at the firm.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max)
Nothing today...
The story starting to feel dragged out. Nothing much is happening anymore and Felicia and Max are getting kinda boring.. it’s just the same cycle over and over again...
I used to like this story but now it draaaaags :( Now it seems like all characters are problematic and toxic (yes, ALL characters). Wish the author will give some warmth/emotion in this story. 700+ chapters and still no highlight, no exciting part, just pure coldness and expressionlessness lol...
Max and felicia really need to figure things out. Either humble max down and get him to respect his wife. Or let felicia be a free woman. Max is so ignorant and egomaniac...
I've reached chapter 104 with a broken heart huhuuhu. This is so heavy, so sad. I know the chapters onwards will be more lighter. Can't wait for the pay back time....
When will this novel get an end It's dragging so much. Just kill max asap. How much should felicia bare. Give her freedom from that max and anne. Anne is so annoying child. I know she wants to patch up her mother and father. But sometimes it's really boring.please finish the novel soon. Everyday we have to check for the chapter updates. For God sake finish it off. How many more chapters are there . You could have make the novel short and sweet. I wish if it was in theatre we could have finish it soon....
I am waiting for the update, thank you uploader we reader enjoying the story...
