He was wearing a deep navy shirt paired with crisp white trousers. The look was effortlessly fashionable. Thanks to years of rigorous physical training, his body possessed flawless proportions. He was broad shouldered, lean, and undeniably striking. He rarely wore white trousers, usually preferring darker tones, but this combination highlighted his elegant posture and aristocratic aura perfectly.
"It looks good," she replied simply.
Anne chimed in with her bright, ringing voice, absolutely refusing to hold back her praise. "Daddy is the most handsome and the best looking."
Max looked down at his daughter, his eyes crinkling into a warm smile. He turned to the sales associate. "I will take this set."
"Right away, sir."
Just as Max turned to head back to the fitting room to change, the phone in Felicia's hand began to vibrate. When Max had gone in to try on the clothes earlier, he had handed her his phone for safekeeping. Felicia instinctively glanced at the screen and saw Isaac's name flashing on the display. Assuming it was a crucial work matter, she held the phone out to Max as he approached.
Max took the phone and walked slightly off to the side to answer it. "Speak."
Listening to Isaac's urgent report, the warmth vanished from Max's face, replaced by a freezing, terrifying darkness. He turned and stepped entirely out of the store to continue the conversation in private.
In that brief second before he turned away, Felicia vividly sensed the violent shift in his aura. She figured it had to be a massive corporate crisis, so she withdrew her gaze and pushed the thought from her mind, waiting quietly with Anne.
Fifteen minutes later, Max walked back inside, his expression perfectly composed once more. He went into the fitting room, changed back into his own clothes, and instructed the associate to pack the new outfit. After paying the bill, the associate handed the luxurious shopping bags to the bodyguard trailing behind them.
"Let's go," Max said, reaching out to help Felicia stand up.
She was currently capable of walking on her own, though her movements lacked their usual flexibility, and she still occasionally suffered from sudden muscle spasms. Max kept a firm, protective arm wrapped around her waist to steady her, while Anne happily swung her mother's hand. "Cake time. Cake time," the little girl chanted gleefully.
Felicia looked at her daughter and replied softly. "We don't need that many."
Max eventually settled on one perfect design and arranged to pick it up the following day. Felicia looked at him in total confusion.
"We will pick up the cake tomorrow morning before heading back," he explained simply.
After walking around the city for hours, Felicia was completely exhausted. They returned to a luxurious harbor apartment for the night. As evening fell, standing before the massive floor to ceiling windows offered an unmatched, breathtaking view of the opera house and the glittering city skyline.
Max sat on the floor playing games with Anne in the living room. The massive apartment echoed with the little girl's joyous laughter until she was breathless. When she finally wore herself out, Max took her to wash up and tucked her securely into bed. Once Anne was completely asleep, Max returned to the living room and sat down right next to Felicia. He draped his arm naturally around her shoulders, pulling her close as they watched television together.
A romance drama was playing on the screen. The living room was entirely silent except for the dialogue echoing from the speakers. However, the plot quickly took a heated turn. The male and female leads got into a fierce argument, which escalated wildly until the man pinned the woman against the wall and kissed her forcefully. Once the heroine was completely drained of energy, the man began coaxing her with apologies as his hands moved to unbutton her clothes. The scene grew increasingly steamy and entirely out of control.

Is this coming to an end...
Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
The writer did a big one with Jeremy's speech to Max. He said almost everything that needed to be said. I have wanted Felicia or someone who knows the past to just tell that whole stinking family what they did and how disgusting they are and what they're doing now how unfair it all is to Felicia. A pity it was only Max but he really needed to hear this (plus more)....
I love the chase of this novel, how you’ve build each of the characters. They almost seem like real. I feel like I know them irl. But however I would like to know what’s max’s pov and what’s going on in his head. I truly believe max’s just a grey character. And also please please please update more!!!...
I was really hoping that Max and Felicia would end up together, but why did Max do that to Felicia? 😭 Is that his way of making Felicia overcome the trauma Holden caused her? I don't think that's helping at all. I just hope Max's character has some redeeming qualities in the coming chapters....
