The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 789

Max's hand paused as he swiped the screen. He turned his head to look at the suspicious woman beside him and let out a light laugh. "Why wouldn't it be edible?"

"If you don't know how to cook, there is no need to force yourself," Felicia replied.

The smile on Max's lips deepened. "Don't worry, it will definitely be edible."

When the food was finally served on the table, it was a hearty spread.

"Daddy, it smells so good!" Anne exclaimed.

Max picked Anne up, settled her into her chair, and smiled. "Then you should try it quickly, Anne. Your mommy doubts if my cooking is edible."

"Okay." Anne picked up her chopsticks and grabbed a piece of potato, blowing on it carefully. Her little pouty face as she blew on her food was absolutely adorable. Once it was cool, she popped it into her mouth. As soon as she tasted it, her eyes lit up instantly. She turned to her mother excitedly. "Mommy, it's delicious! You have to try it."

Felicia sat beside her, while Max sat across from the mother and daughter.

After lunch, someone came up to clean the kitchen. Max grabbed Felicia's medication and handed it to her along with a glass of water. She took it and swallowed the pills. As the afternoon wore on, Max showed no intention of taking them back to the island manor, and Felicia didn't bother to ask. Throughout the afternoon, she heard Max take quite a few phone calls, all of which were related to work.

Back at the manor, the group waiting for Max to return had grim expressions. Darin advised them to wait a little longer, insisting that Max would eventually bring Felicia back.

Night fell, and the city lights flickered on. The birthday cake was lit. The main lights in the living room were turned off, leaving only the colorful glow of the city skyline pouring through the windows and the flickering candlelight illuminating the woman's delicate face. In the massive living room, there was no noisy birthday celebration, only a quiet, peaceful atmosphere.

"Mommy, make a wish quickly," Anne urged.

Felicia sliced a small piece for Anne, one for Max, and a tiny piece for herself. Anne ran over to sit on the sofa, happily eating her cake while swinging her little legs and watching cartoons. Felicia and Max walked over to join her.

Suddenly, Anne turned to her mother. "Mommy, do you know when Daddy's birthday is?"

Felicia froze for a moment, hesitating before asking if Anne knew.

"Of course I know! It is August twentieth," Anne said proudly. "Mommy, next time we should celebrate Daddy's birthday together too." She loved having only her mommy and daddy together for a birthday, just their family.

August twentieth. Felicia certainly remembered it. That year, she had been less than three months pregnant with Anne. Her morning sickness hadn't even passed yet, and she was exceptionally haggard. At that time, Max's disgust for her was at its peak, yet she still foolishly fantasized about being a good wife to him. She had overestimated her place and prepared a gift anyway, a diamond brooch and a lion charm she had crocheted herself, along with a special dinner. Of course, she knew even then that she was only deceiving herself. She didn't even know what she was hoping for or dreaming about.
