The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 807

For a long moment, the atmosphere inside the spacious office plunged into a freezing, suffocating tension. Ultimately, Darin stormed out of the office, his face a mask of livid fury.

Dannie, who was standing near the entrance, shrank back when she saw Darin emerge. Feeling the sharp, chilling aura radiating from him, she immediately stepped to the side and bowed her head respectfully. "Mr. Foxhall."

Darin marched right past her without a word, his long strides carrying him swiftly toward the elevators.

Once Darin was gone, Dannie entered the office to deliver her report to Max. Max's expression was as calm and composed as ever. The top buttons of his collar were now neatly fastened. It’s like he had likely left them unbuttoned entirely on purpose, putting on a deliberate show for a specific audience.

After finishing her report, Dannie left the executive office. Isaac happened to be looking for her regarding some business matters. Once they finished discussing work, Dannie could not contain her curiosity.

"It seems like Mr. Hawthorne and Mr. Foxhall had a major falling out," she noted quietly. "Did something happen?"

Isaac frowned deeply. Anyone in the business world could have a conflict of interest with Mr. Hawthorne, except Mr. Foxhall. Yet, he too could clearly sense the massive rift that had suddenly formed between the two leaders. Given the recent sabotage of the Kingsley International project, the only person Isaac could realistically suspect was Darin. For years, the two men had never had a single conflict. Though Isaac did not know the exact details, his gut told him it had everything to do with Felicia. Who could have ever imagined that a woman who once seemed so inconsequential would wield such catastrophic influence?

Deciding not to share his theories, Isaac kept his expression stern. "Just focus on doing your job properly. Do not go snooping into things that do not concern you."

Dannie, knowing better than to push her luck, nodded obediently. "Understood."

Back at the estate, Felicia handed the phone back to the nanny. "Where is Anne?" she asked. The moment the words left her mouth, she was startled by how incredibly hoarse and raspy her own voice sounded.

The nanny offered a knowing, gentle smile. "She is currently playing the piano by herself in the music room."

"Okay. You can step out for now."

"Let me help you out of bed, Madam."

"Okay!" Anne chirped, grabbing her mother's hand and leading the way downstairs.

After sharing a pleasant lunch with Anne, the nanny brought over the freshly warmed bowl of herbal medicine. Anne stared at the dark, sludgy liquid. It was her absolute least favorite thing in the world. She instinctively pinched her nose. Though her heart ached knowing her mother had to drink something so foul, Daddy had told her that Mommy had to finish it all to get better.

"Mommy, you have to be a good girl and drink your medicine. Once you drink it, you will feel all better. Look, I even got the candy ready for you!" Anne proudly pulled two wrapped sweets from the pocket of her little dress.

Looking at her daughter's earnest face, a soft smile touched Felicia's lips. She reached out and took the bowl. Anne kept her wide eyes glued to her mother, looking exactly like a strict little supervisor.

Holding the bowl, Felicia let out a long breath, tipped her head back, and downed the bitter concoction in two large gulps. The moment the bowl was empty, Anne frantically pressed the candies into her mother's hand and patted her back with her tiny palms. "Not bitter, Mommy! You are the best at drinking medicine! Even better than me!"

Felicia could not help but chuckle, gently pinching her daughter's little nose.
