The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 81

By seven thirty, the riverside square was already overflowing with people, everyone waiting for the fireworks and drone show to start. There was no way Felicia’s group was going to squeeze through the crowd, especially with Felicia so far along in her pregnancy. They headed straight for the Central Tower instead.

The top floor was the perfect spot for a view. They took the elevator up to a fancy restaurant, their reservation already set. The place was quiet, only a handful of people around, which made it feel kind of exclusive. Even though the show hadn’t started yet, the city lights spread out beneath them looked stunning.

Felicia and Savannah were busy snapping photos, taking selfies together, and even talking the guys into a few pictures. Well, everyone except Anthony. He didn’t seem to mind being behind the camera instead. “Okay, everyone, look here. Let’s do a peace sign,” Anthony said, holding up his phone. Felicia and Savannah grinned, fingers forming hearts for the shot.

Then, just as laughter filled the table, a few familiar faces walked into view. Max, Darin, Kennedy, Andrea, and Lisa were here. Andrea was holding onto Max’s arm, the two of them looking every bit like a picture-perfect couple. The two groups caught each other’s eyes, and suddenly the air felt heavy. Felicia found herself locking eyes with Max. It was the first time they’d seen each other since that argument that landed her in the hospital. They both looked away quickly, pretending not to know each other.

Savannah rolled her eyes, muttering, “Why do we always run into disgusting people?” She kept her voice low, so the other group wouldn’t hear.

Anthony tried to lighten the mood. “Maybe we need to find a shaman and get rid of this bad energy.”

Savannah chuckled, “Honestly, not a bad idea.”

Felicia could feel her mood slipping, old emotions bubbling back up. She did her best to stay calm, not wanting to ruin the night for everyone else, but it was clear her friends noticed. Savannah suggested they head downstairs to watch the show from the ground. No one disagreed. Felicia realized they were doing it for her, which made her feel a little guilty, though she really didn’t want to stay up there any longer.

They all got up to leave. Savannah helped Felicia while the guys trailed behind. Luke was last, and he glanced over at Max’s group, his expression hard. Max looked back at him for a moment before Luke turned away and followed the others.

Anthony suggested grabbing drinks. He looked at Luke, who had only just met the group that night. They’d hit it off, even exchanging numbers.

Luke smiled, shaking his head. “Next time. Drinks are on me then.”

“Deal,” Anthony laughed.

Everyone headed to their cars and drove off into the night.
