The elevator chimed, and the doors slid open. Just as Isaac stepped out into the hallway, his phone buzzed with a new message. He pulled it from his pocket and saw a photo sent by Andrea. He had never deleted her contact information. Since Andrea could no longer get ahold of Max, she had resorted to sending the picture to Isaac.
Isaac tapped on the image. When he recognized the two people in the frame, a look of utter disgust flashed across his eyes. Felicia really was exactly the kind of manipulative woman he thought she was. She was happily soaking up all the care and attention Mr. Hawthorne gave her, while simultaneously flirting with Jeremy behind his back. Even while supposedly sick, she had the energy to string two powerful men along. She clearly couldn't survive without male validation. Her calculating nature was truly something most women could never hope to match.
Andrea's motive for sending the photo was painfully obvious. Naturally, Isaac did not reply. After all, Max had completely severed ties with Andrea. He slipped his phone back into his pocket and proceeded to the CEO's office.
After carefully setting out the catered lunch on the coffee table, Isaac lingered in the room instead of leaving.
Max, who was still deeply engrossed in a stack of documents on his desk, glanced up at his assistant. "Is there something else?"
Isaac retrieved his phone, opened the photo in his gallery, and held it out for his boss to see. "Mr. Hawthorne, you should look at this." He honestly hoped this would finally make Max see Felicia's true colors. Lately, Max's entire work schedule had been thrown into total chaos all because of her.
Max took the phone. The moment his dark eyes landed on the photo, his expression hardened into stone. He looked up at Isaac. "Where did you get this?"
Meeting his boss's piercing gaze, Isaac's heart skipped a fearful beat. He didn't dare lie. He lowered his eyes and stammered, "It was... Miss Curtis."
Max tossed the phone back onto the desk, his voice dripping with ice. "Isaac, you are well aware of what is and isn't your place."
Knowing better than to argue, Isaac quickly bowed his head. "I understand, sir."
"Get out," Max commanded, his tone freezing the very air in the room.
Isaac hastily snatched up his phone and practically fled the office. Max leaned back in his leather chair, his handsome features completely unreadable.
After they finished their lunch, Jeremy offered to drive Felicia home.
"I'm here to see Brandon Hawthrone's wife," Felicia said calmly. "Could you please contact her for me?"
The guard eyed her up and down, surprised by her audacity to use the Mayor's name so casually. "And who exactly are you?"
"My name is Felicia. Mrs. Hawthorne knows exactly who I am."
The guard retreated to the booth to make a quick phone call. Two minutes later, he returned, his attitude still dismissive and curt. "You can go in."
Felicia paid his rudeness no mind and walked into the sprawling estate. She navigated her way to the luxurious building where Tatiana lived and took the elevator up. The building featured a private layout with only one apartment on each floor. Stepping out into the private foyer, she walked up to the heavy double doors and rang the bell.
The door clicked open shortly after. A housekeeper stood in the entryway, eyeing Felicia with blatant coldness before stepping aside. "Come in."

Is this coming to an end...
Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
The writer did a big one with Jeremy's speech to Max. He said almost everything that needed to be said. I have wanted Felicia or someone who knows the past to just tell that whole stinking family what they did and how disgusting they are and what they're doing now how unfair it all is to Felicia. A pity it was only Max but he really needed to hear this (plus more)....
I love the chase of this novel, how you’ve build each of the characters. They almost seem like real. I feel like I know them irl. But however I would like to know what’s max’s pov and what’s going on in his head. I truly believe max’s just a grey character. And also please please please update more!!!...
I was really hoping that Max and Felicia would end up together, but why did Max do that to Felicia? 😭 Is that his way of making Felicia overcome the trauma Holden caused her? I don't think that's helping at all. I just hope Max's character has some redeeming qualities in the coming chapters....
