The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 829

To the average citizen, it was simply a fairytale showcase of wealth, fueling their envy of wealthy marriages.

Felicia, however, paid it zero attention from the comfort of her home. Her daily routine consisted of ferrying Anne to and from school, reading quietly, or visiting the Gilbert family residence to practice calligraphy and play chess with Nate. She appeared entirely normal and at peace, wholly detached from the chaotic circus playing out in the outside world.

Heather visited Oakridge Estate frequently to keep her company, and the two women would often pick up their children together. Heather deliberately avoided mentioning Holden and Andrea's engagement. She and Jeremy had both received invitations, and she knew Max had undoubtedly gotten one as well. Since Felicia did not bring it up, Heather saw no reason to taint the air with such disgusting gossip. After all, it had absolutely nothing to do with her friend anymore.

One afternoon, Felicia was just getting ready to head out when Luke arrived to visit her. "Luke," she greeted him warmly.

Luke scrutinized her for a moment. Seeing that she looked genuinely well, relief washed over him. "I just wanted to check on you. How have you been feeling lately?"

"I am doing great. What about you?" Felicia asked. A sudden thought crossed her mind. "How did that blind date go?"

Luke had finally caved to Rose's relentless pressure and attended a matchmaking setup with Ivy Manning. From her refined speech and flawless etiquette, it was obvious she was a highly cultivated heiress of a prestigious lineage. At first glance, she possessed an almost unreal beauty. Despite her undeniable grace, it was painfully clear that she had been strictly conditioned by her family's rigorous rules, terrified of making a single behavioral misstep.

After a brief conversation, both of them realized they were entirely romantically incompatible. However, they were both logical, pragmatic individuals who saw the value in a strategic partnership. To fend off their overbearing families and avoid enduring endless future blind dates, they struck a mutual agreement to continue a superficial courtship.

Facing Felicia's curious gaze, Luke decided to keep the transactional nature of his relationship a secret. "We are just going to keep seeing each other for now and see where it goes," he said smoothly.

Felicia nodded in approval. If he was willing to keep seeing her, their first impressions must have been overwhelmingly positive. Miss Manning certainly seemed like a highly educated, respectable debutante, making them a perfect match in both status and background. Felicia did not press for details. "That is wonderful news."

"Were you just heading out?" Luke asked, gesturing to her coat.

Luke, understanding her need for independence, did not push the issue. "Alright then."

The chauffeur drove Felicia out of the estate. Luke got into his own vehicle and followed a short distance behind her. They approached a busy intersection. Just as Luke turned his steering wheel to take a different route, a massive commercial truck suddenly accelerated, hurtling directly toward the path of the car ahead of him. Crash! A deafening, metallic crunch echoed through the streets.

The rogue truck slammed violently into two vehicles. One car was immediately flipped upside down by the sheer force of the impact. The truck's grill then plowed straight into the side of the Maybach. Thanks to the luxury sedan's heavy reinforcement, it remained upright, though the truck's front end crumpled completely upon impact. The Maybach's doors were crushed inward, severely deformed by the collision, and highly flammable fuel began pouring out of a ruptured tank onto the asphalt.

Panic seized Luke. He violently wrenched his steering wheel, slamming his car into a curb. He leapt out and sprinted desperately toward the mangled Maybach. He wrenched the crushed door open and reached inside, grabbing Felicia's unconscious body. Hauling her out of the wreckage, he sprinted frantically toward the safety of the sidewalk.

Boom! The spilled fuel ignited into a massive explosion. A towering wave of fire erupted into the sky. Luke had not made it far enough away. The violent shockwave slammed into his back, throwing him violently to the ground as he shielded Felicia with his own body.
