Felicia turned her head, her eyes locking intently onto the man beside her. "How did you get the news before anyone else?"
"Is there anything in this city that can actually be hidden from me?" Max replied smoothly.
Felicia did not look away. She continued her relentless questioning. "You said my dad is going to be fine. Are you planning to resolve this for him? Are you going to deal with the Curtis family, or are you just going to pay off the 1.2 billion dollar debt yourself?"
"Your father was innocently dragged into this mess," Max stated evenly. "Naturally, I will not let him bear the burden of this massive debt."
Felicia's eyes narrowed dangerously. "So you are going to intervene and take down the Curtis family?"
Max did not answer her directly. Instead, he scooped a bowl of warm soup and placed it in front of her. "Eat your food first. It is getting cold."
A sudden, mocking laugh escaped Felicia's lips. "This matter has absolutely nothing to do with you. And you are certainly not the one who should be dealing with them."
Meanwhile, Jeremy and Darin were still standing outside the villa gates.
"Given the current situation, it is going to be impossible to keep the truth from Felicia any longer," Jeremy warned quietly. "Have you figured out how you are going to face her?"
Darin lowered his eyes, feeling as if a massive boulder was crushing his chest. He had no idea what to do. Facing his silence, Jeremy decided not to push the subject any further. The two men stood together in the quiet afternoon air.
During their wait, Darin received two phone calls. The first brought updates on the ongoing engagement gala, and the second delivered critical news regarding IronGate Industries. Even though the sun was shining brightly, an impenetrable aura of freezing darkness radiated from Darin's entire being.
Suddenly, Jeremy's phone buzzed. He answered the call and received a highly interesting piece of information. Holden still had not shown up at his own engagement party. Something major had happened to him.
Jeremy lowered his phone and watched Darin end his second call. "What exactly are you doing to Holden?"
"Just making him suffer a little," Darin replied, his voice laced with venomous ice.
"Daddy and Mommy are eating in the dining room," Anne told him brightly. "Grandma suddenly felt sick, so Grandpa took her upstairs to rest."
Greg affectionately patted her head and made his way toward the dining room.
The dining room was dead silent. Suddenly, the harsh, grating screech of a chair dragging against the floor broke the quiet. Felicia stood up and began walking toward the hallway, walking straight into Greg as he approached. Seeing her deathly pale face and the bloodshot agony swimming in her eyes, Greg felt a sharp jolt of terror. She looked as if she was forcibly repressing an unimaginable depth of pain.
"Felicia," Greg called out anxiously.
"You are back, Greg," Felicia whispered.
"I am," Greg nodded, trying to keep his voice steady. "I know everything about your Dad's situation. Do not worry. Everything is going to be fine."
Felicia gave a slow, mechanical nod. "I am going to my room."

Is this coming to an end...
Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
The writer did a big one with Jeremy's speech to Max. He said almost everything that needed to be said. I have wanted Felicia or someone who knows the past to just tell that whole stinking family what they did and how disgusting they are and what they're doing now how unfair it all is to Felicia. A pity it was only Max but he really needed to hear this (plus more)....
I love the chase of this novel, how you’ve build each of the characters. They almost seem like real. I feel like I know them irl. But however I would like to know what’s max’s pov and what’s going on in his head. I truly believe max’s just a grey character. And also please please please update more!!!...
I was really hoping that Max and Felicia would end up together, but why did Max do that to Felicia? 😭 Is that his way of making Felicia overcome the trauma Holden caused her? I don't think that's helping at all. I just hope Max's character has some redeeming qualities in the coming chapters....
