Knock, knock, knock.

“Felicia, your dad and Greg are back,” Ava called from outside the door.

Felicia put down her photo album and got up to head out. As soon as she saw them walk in, her face lit up. “Dad, Greg!”

Greg and Colton both looked over at her, smiling.

“Felicia, I brought you a present. Come here. Open it up!” Greg said, waving her over.

Felicia hurried over with curiosity. “What is it?”

Greg set a bunch of shopping bags on the coffee table, then pulled out a jewelry box and handed it to her. “Here.”

She opened the box and gasped a little. Inside was a beautiful gold bracelet, so delicately made it sparkled in the light. “Thank you, Greg. I love it.”

“That’s all I wanted,” Greg said, grinning as he ruffled her hair.

He hadn’t forgotten Ava either. He gave her a gold bracelet that matched her style, and he’d brought skincare sets for both ladies. For Colton, there was tea, a nice bottle of liquor, and some local treats from his trip. The whole room felt extra cozy just then, everyone relaxed and happy.

Felicia always felt her best at home, like she could finally breathe.

“Felicia, when’s your due date?” Greg asked, glancing at her belly. She really did look like she could be ready to deliver any day now.

“Still got two more months to go,” Felicia replied.

“I’m calling it now, you’re definitely having a girl,” Ava said with a laugh.

Lately, Greg had been busy with the tech company he started with a friend. Two years ago, when they were just getting started, Colton had given Greg the seed money without a second thought. Now the company was doing great, working mainly in AI. The reason for Greg’s recent trip had been to sign a big partnership agreement, and it all went smoothly.

Meanwhile, Colton was in the middle of selling off his own company. The money from the Hawthornes had helped for a while, but the market was tough and making a comeback just wasn’t possible. He was getting older, didn’t have the energy he used to, so he decided to sell and put everything he had into Greg’s company when it started raising money at the end of the year.

Then Colton shared some good news. He and Ava were finally going to get married.

Ava’s eyes went shiny with tears. After all those years together, she was finally getting her happy ending.

Felicia had no complaints. She knew her dad had never married Ava because he couldn’t let go of her mom. She never really understood why her mom left him in the first place. But none of that mattered anymore.

It was such a perfect day. Felicia just couldn’t bring herself to ruin it.
