Ferris thought for a long time before answering. “I don’t remember.”

He truly didn’t.

Ferris hadn’t lost his memory. He could recall everything from before he collapsed.

But when he tried to focus on that night, it felt distant, like looking through a thin veil. Everything was blurry, like it was covered in fog.

Stanley frowned, clearly disappointed. “You don’t remember? Rascal, you said you didn’t lose your memory. Then why can’t you remember that night? Something must have happened. That’s the only way you’d end up like this.”

Ferris said, “If I had to say, it felt like any normal night. I had dinner, did my training, took a shower, and read a bit before bed, and then I fell asleep.”

And when he woke up, he saw a pale, beautiful girl standing there, looking at him.

The meal was still being prepared. Stanley smiled and asked, “Scarlett, do you play chess?”

He was very good at it. So good that no one around him wanted to play anymore.

Whenever he met someone new, he always asked. If they didn’t play, his hands itched, but he had no one to play with. If someone did, even a few rounds would satisfy him.

Young people didn’t usually play chess these days. He wasn’t sure if Scarlett could.

To his surprise, Scarlett smiled. “Chess? I know a little. Want to play a couple rounds”
