Chapter 781
Chapter 781
Just then, a few bodyguards rushed down the stairs. Seeing her there, they immediately stepped forward. “Ms. White, what are you doing here? You can’t just wander around this area. If Lawrence
finds out, he’ll be furious.”
Damaris turned to them, her face pale with desperation. “Who’s locked inside? I heard someone calling my name! Who is it? Open the door, I need to go in!”
The guards exchanged uneasy glances, hesitant to lay a hand on her. “You must have misheard, Ms. White,” one tried to coax. “The only people locked up in here are those who crossed Lawrence. No one in there knows you.”
“No, I didn’t mishear! I know someone called my name.” Damaris’s voice trembled as a suffocating wave of panic washed over her. “Open the door! Let me in!”
“We really can’t do that…”
The bodyguards were at a loss.
After a brief exchange of looks, one of the guards lunged forward, striking the back of her neck. Damaris went limp, collapsing instantly. Not daring to carry her themselves, they summoned a maid to bring her back to her room.
Outside, dark clouds swallowed the night sky. The underground basement hidden deep within the woods felt like the gaping maw of an abyss, concealing madness and despair.
In one of the cells, a battered figure dragged himself toward the door, forcing his voice louder. “Damaris…”
Shouting that single name drained every ounce of his remaining strength. Bagot stared at the door with bloodshot eyes, but all he heard was the chaotic sound of footsteps fading into the distance.
He had heard them. Those men had called her Ms. White. His Damaris was really here!
Bagot’s hands clamped around the metal bars in a death grip. Agony tore through every inch of his body, draining him so entirely that crawling even that short distance had pushed him to the brink of
exhaustion.
A crushing weight of regret and self–blame suffocated him. In his current state, how was he supposed to save her?
He had been far too reckless.
The fire in Damaris’s room had been put out, but the space was thoroughly gutted. Since it was uninhabitable, the maids had moved her to another bedroom.
When Damaris finally woke up, it was already late the next morning. She jolted upright and bolted for the door, not even pausing to slip on her shoes.
But the bedroom door was locked from the outside.
“Open up! Let me out!”

Chapter 781
Damaris slammed her hands against the heavy wood. Her face was ashen, but her eyes were
rimmed with frantic tears. She had heard it!
The voice had been agonizingly weak, but it was real!
No one on this private island called her by her first name. Someone she knew had come to rescue her. After all this time, she was finally going to see a familiar face.
“Let me out!”
She hammered on the door relentlessly, but the hallway remained dead silent.
Eventually, her palms turned red and numb. Exhausted, she slumped against the carpet, the initial surge of wild hope slowly giving way to a creeping, icy terror.
