Chapter 782
Aaron described the gruesome details of the photo, his expression grim. “Lawrence has gone way too far this time.”
If Lawrence disliked Bagot, he could have simply thrown him off the island’s trail or knocked him out and told Lance to pick him up. Instead, he locked him in a dungeon and tortured him into a pulp.
What exactly was his endgame?
Lance’s tone was ice–cold. “Has he left for the Solen Strait?”
Aaron nodded. “He’s already departed.”
“Contact Neely,” Lance ordered flatly. “Tell him to raid the island and pull Damaris and Bagot out. Increase the bounty to ten million dollars.”
“Understood,” Aaron said.
He took a deep breath before adding, “There’s something else. Chairman Adams has been inspecting the company frequently. He’s openly pushing back against many of your decisions. Because his shares are limited, he doesn’t have veto power, and the vice chairmen haven’t backed him yet. But if this drags on, they might start second–guessing you.”
After all, Lance’s blindness was a massive liability. Whether he’d ever recover was still up in the air. The board wasn’t going to blindly follow a visually impaired CEO forever–that would be corporate suicide.
“Let him play around with the trivial projects,” Lance said dismissively.
“Yes, Boss.”
With his report finished, Aaron left Lumina Grand.
The sprawling estate felt deafeningly empty. Lance had ordered the staff to stay out of sight while he spent hours pacing his bedroom, forcibly memorizing the layout.
Whenever he bumped into a piece of furniture, he would fumble for his phone, snap a picture of the obstacle, and send it to Nathalie.
He didn’t add any captions; just photo after photo of his struggles.
Nathalie texted back: [If you need something done, ask the staff. Stop trying to do it all yourself.]
Lance sent a voice memo, his tone smooth and vulnerable. “I can’t rely on people for the rest of my life. I have to learn how to be independent, don’t I?”
His voice sounded gentle, but it twisted a painful knot in Nathalie’s chest.
She was standing in a sunny park with Freddy, who noticed her distress. “Did something happen with Lance?”
Nathalie looked up, a complicated swirl of emotions in her clear eyes, and typed on her phone: [I think I’m heading back in a few days.]
Freddy looked visibly surprised. “The holidays are only a week away. I thought you were staying to

celebrate Spring Festival with Grandma.”
She wanted to.
But every time she pictured Lance stumbling alone through that massive, dark house, the heartbreaking ache of guilt was impossible to ignore.
