Dinner was a lavish spread of eight dishes and a soup, mostly tailored to Nathalie’s tastes.
Adelaide watched the dynamic between them, a faint, knowing smile playing on her lips.
“Freddy, this looks absolutely phenomenal,” she praised.
Freddy smiled modestly. “Please, give it a try, Grandma. If anything isn’t quite right, let me know so I can perfect it next time.”
“I will.”
Adelaide picked up her silverware and took a bite.
Nathalie, however, seemed lost in thought.
Adelaide glanced at her. “Nathalie, Freddy made all this delicious food, why are you spacing out? Eat
up.”
Snapping out of her daze, Nathalie offered a soft smile and nodded. “Okay.”
She had tried his soup before, so she knew he was skilled.
But this time, she was genuinely impressed.
The presentation, the aroma, the taste–it was flawless, and every single dish was her favorite.
Nathalie lowered her eyes and ate in silence.
Seeing that she wasn’t going to offer any verbal praise, Adelaide sighed inwardly and chimed in, “It really is fantastic.”
“As long as you both enjoy it,” Freddy replied with a soft smile.
Warner walked over, holding a bottle. “How about some fruit wine? It’s a Reunion Dinner, isn’t it? We
can’t celebrate without a toast!”
Adelaide nodded. “Sure, pour us a little. The fruit wine won’t get anyone drunk.”
Freddy interjected gently, “Nathalie is taking herbal medicine right now, so she shouldn’t have alcohol. She’ll stick to juice.”
“Ah, right, of course! I brought juice too,” Warner said cheerfully, placing a glass of orange juice next
to Nathalie.
“Come on, let’s raise our glasses to the upcoming new year!” Warner was always the life of the party, pulling up a chair with a bright smile.
They all raised their glasses, the gentle clink of crystal ringing in the air.
Freddy looked right at Nathalie. “Here’s to the new year. May you be safe, happy, and get everything you truly want.”
Nathalie smiled. “Thank you.”
Freddy then turned to Adelaide. “And may you stay healthy and live a long, joyful life, Grandma.”

Adelaide chuckled. “And may your career continue to thrive, getting you exactly what you desire.”
“Cheers!”
The atmosphere warmed up beautifully. They chatted about recent events, global news, and lighthearted celebrity gossip. The conversation flowed effortlessly, leaving everyone relaxed and in good spirits.
After dinner, Nathalie loaded the dishes into the dishwasher. When she turned around, Freddy was leaning against the kitchen doorframe, watching her with a gentle, appreciative gaze.
