When Adelaide saw them returning with bags of groceries, a warm smile spread across her face. “I thought you two wouldn’t be back for dinner.”
“Nathalie mentioned she’s heading back to Cabinda in a few days,” Freddy said warmly. “Sol suggested we eat at home tonight. Consider it an early Reunion Dinner.”
“That’s wonderful,” Adelaide beamed. “I’m so glad you thought of that. But don’t worry about me–Warner will be here to keep me company. You two should focus on your own lives.”
Freddy took off his coat. “Grandma, I’m going to commandeer your kitchen now, if that’s alright?”
“Oh, you.” Adelaide chuckled, shaking her head. “Go right ahead. I’ll stay out of your way.”
“You haven’t really tasted my cooking yet,” Freddy promised. “I guarantee one bite and you’ll be asking for it all the time.”
“Alright, I’m holding you to that,” Adelaide laughed.
Nathalie was already in the kitchen, prepping the ingredients. When Freddy walked in, she immediately waved him away.

Nathalie: “…”

Watching his fluid, methodical movements, it was obvious he cooked for himself frequently.
Catching her gaze, Freddy teased, “What? Already impatient to eat?”
Nathalie offered a helpless smile, shook her head, and deliberately typed: [Just. Surprised. You. Can. Cook.]
Freddy nodded. “The food overseas wasn’t great, and the ingredients were hit or miss. If I wanted a decent meal, I had to learn. By the way, your voice sounds a bit better than yesterday. Can you feel the difference?”
Nathalie had noticed it too. She didn’t sound nearly as raspy as before, which meant her vocal cords were healing perfectly!
A genuine smile touched her lips. She couldn’t wait for the day she fully recovered.
Once she could speak freely again, she wouldn’t have to rely on her phone, a limitation that constantly

made her feel isolated and anxious.
But a second later, her thoughts drifted back to Lance at Lumina Grand. She remembered the photos
he had sent.
He was always bumping into things…
She was already starting to regain her voice, but what about him?
When would his eyes heal?
She had hope for herself, but he hadn’t made any real progress.
The smile faded from Nathalie’s face, replaced by a heavy, complicated look of worry in her clear
