The Vengeful Warrior Luna's Return novel Chapter 13

Astra’s POV

The moment the words left my lips, I saw Lady Mora’s pupils tighten.

Borrow money? Of course, I knew she only said it out of courtesy.

But since she said it, I had no reason to be polite either.

To her, my family was gone, and sooner or later, all that I owned would fall into Pack Zane’s hands anyway.

So why bother pretending any of it would ever be returned?

Still, she’d already spoken, and pride forced her to nod.

“Of course… borrow. Borrow, yes. When the pack’s funds recover...”

“No need.”

Kieran shot to his feet so fast the chair nearly toppled. “I’ll figure it out myself. I won’t borrow from her.”

He turned and stormed toward the door. It slammed behind him, carrying a gust of cold air into the room.

Silence followed. Every pair of eyes turned to me.

I pretended not to notice. My tone stayed calm, almost pleasant.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back to my room.”

“Stay.”

Lady Mora’s voice cracked like a whip. The soft cough from earlier had vanished. Doctor Danelle's pills were clearly working.

“I’m not finished.” She said it sharply.

I stopped in my tracks.

“I know you went to Graystone Keep to speak with the High Elder,” she said in a low voice, wielding the authority that came with her title.

“That was foolish. Once Isla moves into this house, her victories on the battlefield will belong to you. If there’s enough glory, the Elders might even grant you an honor — something other she-wolves would kill for.”

“You’re right,” I murmured, lowering my gaze.

She smiled, certain she’d won.

“I was only saying you were being rational...” Lady Mora’s whole body trembled with fury, her wolfish eyes flashing with anger.

“Considering the pack’s reputation is rational,” I said gently, stepping closer. My fingertips brushed her arm, a gesture that looked like comfort but wasn’t.

“Don’t be upset, Mother. The medicine you took yesterday will only last five days. After that…” My tone softened, almost kind. “Dr. Danelle won’t be coming back.”

Her claws shot out as she gripped my wrist. “What did you say? You’d be cruel enough to deny me treatment?!”

Sasha lunged at me, shoving me hard. “Astra! If you stop Dr. Danelle from treating her, you’ll kill her!”

I shifted my weight and raised my arm, blocking her easily. She stumbled back, barely catching a chair before she hit the ground.

Her eyes went wide — shock flashing in them.

Surprised that the quiet, soft Omega had more strength than she did?

“Don’t twist my words,” I said, my voice cold as midwinter air.

“Dr. Danelle told me herself yesterday — she won’t be coming back. You can ask her if that was her decision, or my command.”
