The Vengeful Warrior Luna's Return novel Chapter 3

Astra’s POV

He stormed out of the room, banging the door so hard it rattled on its hinges.

Alone, the room finally descended into silence.

For a moment, I thought I would cry. I thought my heart would give up, and I’d curl into a ball and sob until morning.

But I was deathly calm. Like a volcano waiting to erupt.

My wolf was the opposite. She stormed about inside me. Roaring and rattling my mind as she vowed.

“He’ll regret this! One day, when his pack crumbles to nothing. Kieran will understand what he has lost!”

I walked to the side of my bed and dragged the bell to summon my lady’s maid. Bekki.

She wasn’t from here.

Like me, Bekki was a member of the Hale pack. Growing up beside me, she knew everything about my life. Since we were children, she had attended to me. Helping me during my training and following me to Kieran’s pack when I got married. I trusted Bekki with my life.

“Mistress?” Bekki’s soft voice came from the door as she knocked lightly.

“Come.”

The air filled with the sound of the door opening, then a sharp gasp. “What happened?!”

Bekki rushed into the room immediately.

Taking in the broken wine glass Kieran had smashed, and the disarray my aura had caused. She turned to me, her brown eyes wide in alarm. “Are you okay? Are you hurt? Are you—”

“I’m fine.” I cut her off, then turned to my desk. “We have far more important things to deal with.”

Bekki stepped towards me tentatively. “I don’t understand. What has happened?”

The words felt surreal, and I turned to her and said them out loud. “My marriage is over. Alpha Kieran has been… unfaithful.”

“What?” Bekki whispered in disbelief, her eyes wide as her face drained of blood. “No.”

“It’s done.” I gave her a bitter smile. “He’s going to marry the other woman. The council has approved her as the new Luna.”

“That’s impossible!” Bekki hissed hotly, her face red. “How dare— “

“It no longer matters,” I said quietly. “We have to make plans.”

Bekki still looked like she would love to vent her anger. But she swallowed down her words and nodded, her eyes meeting mine intently. “Tell me.”

“I know we spent all the coin reserves,” My voice was low as I tore a piece of parchment paper and began to write codes on it. “But we still have treasures in the coffers.”

I lifted my head to Bekki, and she nodded once, understanding what I meant.

“Make an inventory of all the treasures I brought from Hale. Every weapon. Every artifact. All the gold and jewels.” A fierce, savage like smile curled my lips. “I will take everything back. Let Kieran wait here with his so-called true Luna. Without my treasures, they can guard a imporverished pack.”

Bekki’s eyes lit up, and she bowed deeply. “Yes, mistress.”

The door shut behind her, and I moved to the floor of my bedroom, pushing aside the carpet and pulling up a loose floorboard.

Even in here, I had stored some things.

But not jewels. Weapons.

The metal smell of my father’s blade made my heart shudder.

If he were alive, Kieran would never dare do any of this. My father– the Alpha of the Hale pack. He was the fiercest Alpha in the kingdom.

Like every member of my family, he was fearless. A formidable warrior.

My hands trembled as I recalled my father’s sacrifice. How he had stood against the vampires at the sacred sprin,g even when others faltered. My father and brothers held the line until their last breaths.

True Alphas.

And their blood, my father’s blood, ran in my veins.

From the time I could walk, I had been sent into the mountains to train under elders. Ice storms, blade battles, and trials that left no room for mercy. I learned to fight before I learned to braid my hair.

Nothing about me had ever been weak.

But for Kieran’s fake promise...

It was unheard of for a Luna to request a release mark from elders. Generally, Lunas didn’t end the union.

They either sucked it up and managed or ran away.

Bekki must have been expecting us to elope at night.

“No,” I answered her silent questions outloud with a single shake of my head. “I won’t run like a criminal. I will walk away from Kieran with my head held high.”

The Grand Elder was no stranger to me. Elder Kellen fought alongside my father on that blood-soaked battlefield.

He was one of the people who survived because of my family’s sacrifice, and he had never forgotten it.

He always had a kind word for me or a warm smile.

He even knew something of my training and had praised my strength during her childhood.

He was generally a good man. Just… the kingdom's security took precedence over all else. And as Alpha’s Elder, he was obligated to grant any request from Kieran.

But he was also fair.

He would deliver her the justice she deserved.

At that moment, hurried footsteps sounded in the corridor and soft knocks rapped on my door.

“High Luna?”

Bekki moved and opened the door. “Yes?”

She asked as a palace maid, courtsied quickly in respect.

“It’s the Queen Dowager.” The girl squeaked. “She summons Luna Astra.”

Kieran's mother.

Bekki waved the girl off, shut the door, and turned to me with a frown. “I don’t think you should go. That old fossil must have heard the news. She just wants you to swallow your pride and endure.”

“What must come will come,” I said calmly as I picked up my cloak and turned to the door.
