The Verdict on My Husband the Judge: GUILTY novel Chapter 70

Chapter 1

Three years after I became a vegetable following childbirth complications, my husband hired the world’s most incompetent caregiver.

She’d spill scalding water all over me while trying to give me sponge baths.

She’d accidentally shove me off the hospital bed while repositioning me.

My husband would lose his shit every single day, but never fired herall because some doctor said appropriate stimulationmight help me regain consciousness.

So naturally, she suggested taking me bungee jumping.

OMG, this kind of major shock will totally wake Mrs. Caldwell up! Like, for sure!

Thing is, I have a heart condition and I’m terrified of heights.

But my husband was all for it.

Cool! Seraphina’s scared of heights. We shock her system hard enough, she’ll snap right out of it!

Unfortunately, the bungee jump went sideways, me and Juniper Wilde were both dangling in midair. Hellonly one could be saved.

My husband immediately screamed at the top of his lungs, Save Juniper!!

Next second, a hundred feet up in the air, I forced my eyes open with everything I had.

Oh my God, she’s awake! Mrs. Caldwell’s AWAKE!!

The staff member who spotted it first let out a huge sigh of relief.

Mr. Caldwell, your wife’s eyes are openwe need to get her down immediately.

Griffin Caldwell’s face lit up as he stared at me.

Jesus, babe, you’re finally awake! Juniper’s method actually delivered results!

Truth is, I’d regained consciousness ages agoI just couldn’t control my body.

I blinked slowly, letting him know I’d heard him.

Chapter 1

Babe, vocal cords still not responding?

I blinked again.

The staff were already congratulating us, though they clearly disapproved of bringing a comatose patient bungee jumping.

Congratulations on regaining consciousness, Mrs. Caldwell. Priority one is getting you to a medical facility for comprehensive diagnostics. Let’s move.

Griffin nodded and moved to help me down.

Babe, thank God you’re back. Three years of trying every treatment option, and finally we got a breakthrough. Even if speech isn’t restored yet

Being carried away from that nauseating cliff edge, my racing heart finally started to slow down.

Suddenly someone crashed into us.

Mr. Caldwell! Wait, wait, wait!

I felt myself falling as half my body went over the edge of the platform.

The scream stuck in my throat as everything spun around me, my heart beating erratically.

Juniper! When are you going to develop some goddamn spatial awareness!

Griffin yelled at Juniper Wilde, but his tone had that familiar, resigned quality.

Juniper stuck her tongue out. Sorryyyy Mr. Caldwell, I’m such a mess sometimes! But like, maybe Mrs. Caldwell should totally bungee jump again? She can’t talk yet, so another big shock might completely fix her brain!

Griffin looked thoughtful but didn’t notice the terror in my eyes.

After barely a moment’s consideration, he nodded.

I felt my heart spasm as my breathing became labored. I wanted to scream at him.

My face went pale, and Griffin finally actually looked at me

Seraphina’s having cardiac distresswhere’s her medication?

Juniper rummaged through her bag before biting her lip innocently.

Oopsiewhen we were packing, I totally mixed up Mrs. Caldwell’s vitamins with her heart pills. They looked super similar!

Christ, Juniper! This is exactly why I handle all critical preperations myself

I didn’t mean tot You never usually let me do the medical staff, so I got confessed and

Juniper started crying softly, Mr. Caldwell, I’m like, the worst caregiver ever. You should totally fire me

Griffin looked exasperated. Enough with the waterworks. Learn from it and move forward.

While I was literally dying, Griffin’s first instinct was to comfort juniper.

The pain in my chest seemed to get worse,

I tried to control my heartbeat and calm myself down. The spasms gradually subsided.

Mrs. Caldwell’s all better nowshe must totally forgive me

Juniper’s tears instantly turned to smiles as she innocently grabbed my arm and shook it

Mrs. Caldwell hasn’t had a heart thingy in like three whole years, but now she suddenly did! That means her brain is like, waking up! One more bungee jump and she’ll be completely normal again!

All the staff tried to talk him out of it.

Sir, this is highly irregular protocol

But Griffin had made up his mind. He looked at me with calculated determination.

Babe, I can’t function with you in this vegetative state any longer. To accelerate your recovery timeline, aggressive intervention is necessary. We’ll implement double safety protocols and militarygrade protective equipmentrisk assessment is well within acceptable parameters.

After setting me up on the platform, Juniper went to the other platform to pump herself up.

You got this, Juniper! You’re so brave!

Staring into the bottomless canyon, my body couldn’t struggle at all. I could only let the force behind me shove me

off.

But the moment I was pushed off the platform, I realized the safety rope on my back wasn’t even attached!
